If you haven't seen, the new tour information is here! It does say more shows to be announced if they are not coming near you. If you really want to see them some mega-packages went on sale today which I'm sure cost a bit.
As they are not coming to SLC (yet?) my firends and I are buying tickets friday (my parents have an AOL account I can pre-buy with) for the Vegas show on August 7th. It's a ways off, but wanted to make sure everyone here knew about it, and if anyone else goes to Vegas lets have a mini-meet!

Sammy Hagar is with the band again?
So, let's see, it's:
Roth (78-85)
Hagar (85-96)
Roth (96-96)
Cherone (96-99)
Roth (??-??)
Hagar (04-??)
Is that right?
So I guess next it'll be Roth again for another two songs, then, maybe, Billy Martin?

I couldn't tell you to be honest. Did anytthing happen with Roth that last time? I heard they were in the process of getting back together then laywers got involved and messed everything up.

Maybe this is sacrilege to some, but I think Van Hagar was the best lineup. Not only from a songwriting perspective, but I think Sammy did Roth's tunes better than Roth did, and hearing Roth cover Sammy's tunes was just absurd. Cherone is pretty much irrelevant, as was the album they did with him.
Having said that, I'm not sure I'd be so keen on seeing them on a tour where they're not promoting an album. True, this means they'll stick to the songs people want to hear instead of playing <Homer> new crap </Homer>. But they seem to be the kind of band that could easily get bored on stage and look at this tour as just another money maker. If they were promoting a new album, I think I'd be more confident that they're in it to win it.

I believe the tour is to promote the Best Of Van Halen Volume 2 which is rumored to have 2 new songs. It is more of a "comeback" tour though. I think after Cherone everyone is just happy to have Hagar back.

Van Hagar was the best lineup Sacrilege!
While I'll agree with your points, I'll undercut you by saying that the songs under Hagar sucked. I'd much rather they'd just quit after "1984". "5150" was okay, but the rest just stank, from a songwriting and performing point of view, IMO. I won't even say that it's Sammy's fault. In fact, I'm sure that it's Eddie's fault. But that doesn't make it suck any less.

Different strokes. I think that all of the songs were orders of magnitude better with Hagar in the band.

I agree that the Van Hagar lineup was the best. Perhaps my decision is biased by the era in which I was raised and I'm not discounting some of the great Roth songs. I just think Roth was/is a bit of a clown, which was evident by his egotistical goofiness during the MTV music awards of '96. I truely believe that they were considering taking him back until he started jacking around at the show. After that, it was out the door for Dave.
As for Cherone, he lacked the luster of the other two frontmen, and Van Halen III was the proof.

I also think Diamond Dave was a major joker, but that was half the appeal. For a glam rock bank that big, he was the only guy big enough to front it. Admittedly, I always wanted the VH lineup to have Steve Vai in there alongside Eddie - you just know that would have been BIG!
