This isn't too much of a worry to me, because the empeg is more than enough on it's own, but I might as well get this solved:

When I had my unit installed, I had them run RCA cables down the back into a compartment directly below the player. To that I attached a stereo Y-splitter so I could connect a portable CD/MD/MP3 player. It works, but I get really bad noise from it. I can hear the disc fine, but the noise is just too annoying for the setup to be useful.

Anyway, I'm going back to the instal place so they can fix one little mistake (no sound from the nav system - not a big deal, it's annoying anyway).

So while I'm there I might be able to get this taken care of as well. What do you suggest I tell them?

With my mark 1 I had to use grounding cables on the Aux input with my diskman to get rid of the noise.

This is correct; if you're feeding the aux inputs from a non-car-chassis grounded device (eg a portable discman as opposed to a CD-head unit) you need to ground the aux input RCA shield.

This is because the inputs are designed to be able to remove DC offsets from other head units that may have different grounding.
