Graphics remind me of Serious Sam, are they using the same engine or something?

It's their own new engine, I think. The part that reminds you of Serious Sam is the primary colors and bright lighting. That's more of a level design choice than a characteristic of the engine.

Pretty pics. The demo is nearly 500 megabytes to download, though! Wow...

They are using the new Crytek engine. The demo is quite large, as Tony mentions, but is well worth it. You may want to have a fairly high-end system, as those screenies were taken on my Athlon XP 2600, 1GB RAM, ATI Radeon 9700 Pro. I've seen poorer results on lesser machines.

Heh, here I am, playing the Far Cry demo before work this morning, thinking it's pretty fun and that I might possibly buy the final game... Then this.

For those who don't read German, Blue synopsized it thusly:

German website PC Games Online has word that the offices of Far Cry developer Crytek were raided by the police this morning. Here's a rough Babel Fish translation of a bit that suggests a disgruntled ex-employee (are they ever gruntled?) tipped the police that pirated software was in use: "According to first estimations of the police Crytek used illegally software for play production and caused thus a damage within the six-digit range. Evidence was placed already surely. The law guardians had become attentive by the reference of a former Crytek coworker."

Ouch indeed! It's never good when the law guardians become attentive

And disgruntled is one of my favorite words. I often tell people they seem quite gruntled
