I decided, being a mechanical engineer with some resources available at my disposal, to draw up the Empeg faceplate as a 3D solid model so I could have a new one made for myself of my own design. So I started measuring all up and laying it all out and am about 99% sure I've got it near perfect. I'm having one laser cut out now of a thin material to see how it all really fits (looks very good on paper) before I have one machined. Anyway, I thought there might be more like me out there and was going to offer the DXF of the flat blank (holes using stock buttons there, but no cutout for VFD as I want something custom). I want to see how the test cut fits before sending out... but if you're interested, just let me know and I can send it to you. IGES, Pro Engineer, Solidworks, Catia or just about any other format can be sent too if you have 3D capabilities

You could have just asked for the original DXF from the Cabridge guys....

(Actually, I think it's a SolidWorks model IIRC, but one can convert, right?)

Jemmi,

I'd be interested in a copy of your file(s) coz I fancied a go at a facia myself.

I'm using Mechanical Desktop 4 so I guess IGES or DXF is the best route in for me.

send to......... simspos@hotmail.com

Cheers, Sim

When I was looking to have sleds made, Hugo (altman) is the one who ultimately sent me the file.

Speaking of sleds, I should go see how the next batch is coming along...

I don't remember, but there are others who have made CNC-machined fascias, in both wood and metal. Perhaps they'll reply here...

I have my laser cut sample... will try it out this weekend to see how it fits and then if it's OK I'll send out the file to those that have asked. I have the general locations of the IR sensor hatched in and the display also to make sure any design doesn't impede on that.

I think Rob V. was the first to get it for his wood fascias. Dunno if he still has it as he's since sold his machineramabob.

I also measured up the display-board for my project.

See this thread for more information.

The first faceplate match about 95%.
The newer ones match after a redesign perfectly.

If you wish I can give you the coordinates.

Beaker made an aluminum fascia design and i think he based it of the original empeg file. Here is his thread.

He has downloadabled STEP? format files on his site that is linked in that thread.

Yeh, I really, really liked Beakers design, shame it never made it into the "real world"

Coolblue, that would be really good. Why not post them here for anyone interested

I can publicise the FRONT PANEL DESIGNER - File from my front-plate.

FRONT PANEL DESIGNER is cost free and you can download it from here
The handling of this software is very easy.
So everyone is able to do his own faceplate with nearly no skills.
Its also very low priced. FRONT PANEL DESIGNER converts your data directly to CNC-milling & engraving machines-data.
For example the front-plate of my housing costs about 50€.

Nope... didn't work. I mean, the only problem was on the left and right button ellipse... other than that was perfect.. but I must do some more work on it, I guess.

The Empeg guys wouldn't let me have the CAD files at the time so I had to do it all from scratch. Maybe they're a bit more open now?
