Okay so what is the genral impression of panther here

And should i buy it considering it is going to cost me an extra 100 pounds

I only got my powerbook a few month ago it is a pity there is no unpgrade path i know of

Since it has been officially announced I don't see anything wrong with discussing known features. Expose, fast user switching, an improved finder, faster everything, and upgraded applications are all common knowledge (and very cool from what I have seen). The other big improvement for powerbook users that is rumoured is improved battery life (anywhere from any extra half hour to hour of run time). That alone would make the update worthwhile for many users.

Fair enough. So I might be able to tell you some things.

I have build 7b85 installed (which is what's going to be released as gold master) and I love it. It's WAY faster on my 400Mhz Ti PowerBook than 10.2, and the new features are just too cool. I use the fast-user switching as a way to have virtual desktops running to clean up my working area. It works great. The new finder layout is much easier to get around in. I haven't tried Expose too much, I'm going to have to. I'd definitely recommend this upgrade when it comes out. It's definitely worth the price - much more so than the Jaguar upgrade was.

Dislike the idea of CodeTek Virtual Desktop?

Well, I've used software virtual desktops on my mac in the past and my experiences have included lots and lots of bugs and crashes. BUT, this looks pretty dang cool. I might have to check it out. Thanks!

Although - fast user switching does come in handy when my gf wants to use my powerbook. She has a tendency to download WAY too many documents to the desktop - which I hate. Now, she can switch over to her account and d/l as much crap as she wants!

My wife has her own Powerbook, but I can see where fast user switching would be useful.

But, yeah, I bought a license for CodeTek Virtual Desktop around 2.3.5 (you get more desktops) and have been mostly pleased. I can recount my gripes if you wish, but I suspect some have been resolved in 10.3.
