I've been assigned a task that I'm praying can be quickened.

Some woman in our office is complaining that many of her email addresses are coming up as "internet:xxxxx@xxxx.xxx". I've been told that our old system would add the "internet:" to the front of every email, and it looks like all our address books are added to with every incoming and outgoing message, so there are quite a few of these addresses in her book (around 250).

Now I've been assigned the task of removing the "internet:" from all her addresses, which involves far too much clicking if done one-by-one. We use Groupwise 6.5, which appears to have no advanced tools to do such operations.

Is there a place where the program stores the address book, perhaps in a text file of some sort? Can anyone help me here?

I don't know anything about Groupwise, but can you export/import her address book? If that's possible then you could probably export, open up her data in Excel, make the changes, and then import the changes.

I hate to hijack, but with a subject like this, you're asking for it.

I got a Roomba, a RoboMower, a mini-dishwasher (sadly not self-loading) and if I weren't imminently going to get a new heating/cooling system I'd get a networkable thermostat.

I'm all about avoiding monotonous tasks. Luckily, I don't have to worry about this one.

You can definately export and import - the format is a text file (Novell Address Book NAB). It's a bit obscure, but if you export first it should be a straightforward search and replace.

The actual address book database is part of the Groupwise PO message store (part of the ofuser files), and you don't want to try attacking directly.

Open the appropriate address book, select File/Export. Export to a NAB, and edit away.

Edit: This is true in GW 5.5 EP (which is supposed to be mostly the same from the DB end).

That may be going a bit far, all I did was search for "search and replace address book" on their knoledge base.

Plus, it might not work for what he wants, although it sounds like it should be exactly what he's looking for.

Absolutely! Now, if I could only figure out how to write the file they want. Can anyone help me with that? I've included the instructions that come with that file. All I'm trying to do is find every instance of the string "internet:" (with the colon), and delete it.
