Arrgh. Don't you just hate it when;

A neighbor invites you to a party. You don't really want to go because you don't really know them that well and you are shy (even if you do a good job of hiding it most of hte time). When you get there, you end up drinking more than you intended to because it was a great party.

Then then you walk back home and realise that you ripped the dash out of your car during the day hunting down a ground loop, and never got to put it back. And you then realise that your wife needs to use the car at 7am to get to a professional exam.

Aaargh. What to do? Reassemble the dash in an inebriated state or in an hungover state at 6am?

Drunk. With a caveat:

Tonight, reassemble the minimum amount necessary for her to get where she's going. Do not attempt to do any wiring work while drunk, just leave it be.

While she's gone, work on getting the hangover under control, then resume work when she gets back.

Right. This is the non-drunk wife. This is HIS car. His baby. Do you know what he's going to be like if he damages it through drunken clumsiness???

Drunk. That is the only appropriate way to work on a car. I did my 60,000 mile maintenance on my jeep a couple weeks ago in a reasonably inebriated state

Report it stolen in the middle of the night, right after you push it off a cliff or dump it in a river. Then collect the insurance money, and let your wife take a rental.

After you follow d33zy's suggestion and go to jail for insurance fraud, can I have your empeg? I could use a spare...

Only if you place the high bid at public auction.

!

Did you do a sketch of your serpentine belt before taking it off?
The routing of those things could confuse even the most sober of mechanics.

Actually I didn't touch the serpentine belt. Just plugs, front and read diff fluid, tranny fluid, and t-case fluid.

I live in an apartment complex and had to sign a long form saying I wouldn't work on my car in the communal garage so I tend to do work on it at 2 or 3 in the morning when nobody is around to harass me about it. That particular morning I had been out playing pool and drinking and it seemed like the perfect time to work on the jeep

I can only ask: are you pre-empting this or currently drunk.

In the latter case, why are you wasting time on the BBS?

You must tell us how it went! What was your decision? Was it influenced by the poll outcome?

HeHe. It was a genuine question. I wanted to go ahead and get enough back in to make it driveable (as Tony suggested), but my wife was adamant that I'd be better off doing it in the morning (as evidenced by her posting here). I won, and it all went fine
