Lyric sites have always been in a grey area. I'm sure you could attempt to fight the record industry (and most likely lose), but it wouldn't be worth it.
If anything. LRCDB could be one of the legit sites he was talking about. Of course, these record industry folks would want WAY to much for the lyrics, when they shouldn't cost any more than a cent a lyric, which could easily be negated in even the littlest of advertising costs, and even Memberships for $1 for 100 songs. (if you didn't want to make any profit). Of course, then from this, you could go into other content delivery (ie mp3 / flac / ogg downloads of music legally) and suck.
The lesson learned?
The RIAA is evil.
