I have been getting this error all the time....At first I thought it was a virus, but my roommate thinks otherwise. Anyone know how to get rid of it or fix it?

Do a search on those terms in the Microsoft Knowledge Base and see if they have a known problem with it. For instance, I've seen that listed as a known bug after installing Adaptec CD Creator.

I think that's a Wintel BSOD error in NT-based operating systems.

I had a shitty USB radio that would make one of my work machines throw up this error every time I tried to burn a CD. Unplugging the radio and making sure 2k unloaded the driver solved the problem.

it is on my computer...I have Windows 2000. It has been doing it a lot lately when I run DVDComplete, but it will do it other times as well. I tried uninstalling DVDComplete, but when I tried to reinstall it, my computer would reset.

So that's three reports related to the CD or DVD drivers.

Did you do a search in the Microsoft Knowledge Base?

A BSOD in NT is generally going to be related to a device driver doing something it shouldn't. As for what to do, if you can't find more information by looking at the Microsoft Knowledge Base, you'll have to identify which driver is causing the error and either replace the driver or stop using the device.

Can you bring up the OS without starting all of the drivers? You can then start disabeling stuff to see what's causing the problem.

Disclaimer: I've never done this in Windows 2000, only NT 4 and 98, 95.

What you want is to bring the computer up in "Safe Mode". I think you can do this in 2000 the same way as 98. Press the F8 key while windows is starting up. This should bring up a menu on which you can select "Safe Mode". From here windows should boot without the normal drivers.

Once up in Safe Mode you can backup your data, or try to diagnose the problem by uninstalling suspect drivers. (You can also tell drivers not to startup with windows through Start->Programs->Administrative Tools->Services, though this is a bit tricky if you can't identify which service relates to the driver you're intent on disabling). If you examine the BSOD it might tell you which module is causing the crash (I don’t remember, as I haven’t seen one in quite a while).

After uninstalling suspect drivers you should try to restart the PC as you do normally and see if you still get the BSOD.
