I'm sure there is already a thread, but I couldn't find it.

Due to a driver problem I lost both HDDs of my RAID-1. So about 30 gig MP3 are gone. But I save 10 gig on my Empeg, so how to get back these files? I have in mind that this isn't as easy as ftp'ing them back. Then, I haven't tried but heard of rsync'ing, this should be possible in both directions, isn't it? The only things I could restore was about 10 megs of pictures of my son, so the rest doesn't mind ;-).

Both emplode and jemplode can do it. From emplode simply select which files/playlists you want and right click - you'll see a download option.

Or try the FAQ here

Embarrassing! Sorry, I never thought that this was so easy.

Whenever I try to do this in emplode it takes at least 5 minutes to download one average size track. This is over ethernet so surely it should only take a few seconds (like it does to upload the tracks in the first place). I'm using the last beta versions of the kernel and emplode (i.e. before the new ones were released).

Is this supposed to be the case and has anyone else had this problem?

That's not normal. It takes longer than one would think going over ethernet, but no where near 5 minutes. I would say it's less than 30 seconds per track.

It only takes me 5 to 7 minutes to download an hour long track by USB.

It'll be slower fetching content from the player than it was putting the content on the player. The fast-channel stuff implemented for v2.0 only works in one direction.

It shouldn't be that slow, though/

The fastest way to retrieve the content is by installing Hijack, and then using FTP, or the web front end. I believe that if you have Hijack installed, jemplode will use the FTP transport. emplode won't.

Correct, it shouldn't take that long per song. I would check your network connections, wiring, and driver configurations. For example, do you have a piece of firewall software running that filters all incoming data? Does your hub show tons of collisions during the download?

Another reason I've seen for slow ethernet transfers is when a gamer has run some kind of "optimization" utility that's supposed to speed up your ping times when using a dial-up modem to play internet games. These often change things like the MaxMTU variable and the packet size, which are supposed to speed things up for modems. The problem is that these slow down ethernet sometimes.
