I remember a long time ago reading a post about putting super glue or crazy glue on the empeg remote for a tactile nub.

I've been searching throught the posts and havn't found anything, does anyone remember how to make a small nub out of glue on the remote?

A quick search for "remote glue" turns up these two relevant threads:

  • Remote Overlay - Look for Loren's post on using a two part epoxy.
  • Feedback - Look for Tony's post referring to the above post.

And of course the relevant FAQ entry is here although doesn't really give a method.

that was probably one of mine... and i used two part epoxy, and dabbed a tad on with a toothpick... stayed in place for about 6 months.

[edit] uhhh... next time i'll read what others posted first... heh. sorry for the dupe.

For orientation in the dark? I gave up and feel for the IR emitter. I should look at this issue again.

That's the method I use as well. I suggested to Tony that he add that to the FAQ just the other day.

And I replied that (a) For people with big fat calloused fingers like mine, it's sometimes hard to tell the difference between the IR emitter and the battery hatch, and (b) a nub on the enter button also helps one navigate the buttons without looking at it (less counting up up, left left and getting lost).

I mean, why do they put the bumps on the F and J keys, when one could easily start with the Escape key and count down 3 and over 4?

The battery hatch has a notch leading into one of the faces of the remote. It can be uniquely identified.

People learn to touch-type; That doesn't apply to empeg remotes.

bullsh*t. I've almost mastered searching in the dark by learning "touch type" the letters on the remote. Only problem is, I have to start at the menu button as a point of reference.

Sure, if you read back you'll see I can search while GPSapp is in the foreground, obscuring the display. What I didn't say was that was in the dark in a moving car, that I was driving

Yup, I do the same thing. I've done lots of searches in the dark. That's why having a nub on the Menu button helps.

I just wish I knew of an adhesive that would "last" for this. Tried both hot glue and 5-minute epoxy, both lasted a long time, but neither were permanent.

I have got a mobile phone which is so worn that the writing on all the buttons has dissapeared. Still I'm very fast at writing sms messages or browsing the web without looking at the buttons. The remote is slihgtly more difficult, because it also has other buttons, and I have both the kenwood and the rio remote which I use regularly.
