My Mk2 arrived in Seattle Tuesday at 10:17 AM. Boy Fedex is good! Too bad I'm stuck in New Jersey until Friday.

My first mission is to hook the Empeg up to the new 4+1 amp and new cockpit speakers on my sailboat (with the 3rd Group 27 battery I added to keep the music going).

I just read the online Car Player manual and noted the recommended 0-16 degree installation/operation angle. Unless it's a really boring sailing day, I'll always exceed that angle of heel/install one way or another. Building a correctly damped, gimballed mount for the Empeg would be quite an undertaking. Am I going out too far on a limb to imagine that the modest G forces generated by sailing this 33-foot boat at 5 knots over the wake of, say, a large tug or container ship would not stress the shock capabilities of the laptop drive itself?

Jim

I don't think you'll experience a problem with that. There are at least a few empegs already in boats and I haven't heard of any problems.

What you want to avoid is long term operation far from the horizontal, e.g. mounting the unit vertically is considered unwise.

Check the FAQ here on the BBS under "installation mounting angle".

Short answer: You're probably fine, go for it.

Only 5 knots? You should be able to get 7.5 kt at that length. ;-)

Cheers

Thanks
