Ahoy, hoy!

This problem begins due to the empegs odd dimensions. I spent 10+ hours on a handmade mounting kit to get my empeg installed the way I wanted it. Bending aluminum brackets, drilling, bondo, then painting. It was all worth the time it took, once installed, and fitting like a glove.

Then yesterday I drove through a parking lot with thows awesome, gravel camouflaged, speedbumbs. (Going about 30mph) Crack goes my bondo molding...

My Question:
Does anyone know a good online car stereo site with custom mounting designs?

It is for a 1999 Jeep Grand Cherokee.
- It has an "oval" shaped stereo mount.
(If it could help some how, here is a picture of the inside my truck, from ebay.)
- I have already, originally, purchased two different Chrystler/Jeep 84'-03' kits that didn't fit.

Is that it above the cassette player?

How the hell do you control it? Only through the remote? Because I don't see the buttons or knob where they should be.

I think that's a picture of the stock stereo...the empeg's not in there.

Metra and Scosche are the two companies you need to check out. Their main business is wiring harnesses, but they do mounting kits for most cars too.

That picture was just to show how "odd" my setup is.
I have been looking for that oval type kit, with the Empegs dimentions since the beginning of 2002.

God I would KILL to have a mounting problem like this....WHAT PROBLEM? Go to TAP Plastics and get a piece of Plexiglass (Black) and rough to 1/2" largerthatn the opening shape. You can sand it smooth and glue blocks on the back to effect the mounting to the inside of the opening, or better yet place 4 holes (one in each corner of the homade plate right next to the opening. and use nuts and washers from behind. You can get some nice hex heads to match the Empeg even.

I did this with my girlfriends Cherokee (stereo install, not Empeg) and it worked well.

Now can anyone find room for another DIN slot in my (*&!@^#$^ M3???

From the looks of your photo, there should be plenty of pre-made mounting adapter kits for that dash, available from dozens of car stereo suppliers, both local and online. You mean that the oval spot for the factory tape player is where your empeg is right now, right?

I'll bet you could go to www.crutchfield.com , or www.tune-town.com , or to a local car stereo installation shop, and they should be able to get you the exact part you need.

Yes, and it looked pretty good before the surrounding area cracked.

Looking at this FAQ, it states: "The player is a standard sized Euro-DIN stereo."

Any hoot, I emailed three requests for the dimentions of three product's... If not right, I'll be back to the drawing board.

If you do decide to fabricate a new one, I strongly suggest fiberglass with auto-body filler (bondo) just to provide the surface. Kinda like this guy did it.

Yes, E stands for Euro, but that's really not an issue in this kind of a mount. All aftermarket adapters for any kind of DIN mount will fit the thing. That's the whole point of it.

See, that's the thing... If you were asking for a DIN-sized mount, you were probably asking for the wrong thing. "DIN" refers to the size of the HOLE in the center of the object in that photograph. What you needed to be asking for was an aftermarket adapter to fit the dashboard in your make and model car (the outer dimentions of the object in that photograph).

Why did that dash kit not work for you?

One was too wide, lacking 1/2 inch on both sides...
The other was too wide, and also a little too tall.
