I am trying to get a hold of someone from empeg .. but I can't get any response.
There was mention of a company outing to celebrate the delivery of a major OEM contract.
If this is today, you could be out of luck / having to wait until Monday Pretty good chance that one or two empeg addicts grab the keyboard sometime later this week-end,if/ when they've sobered up..
If there is any chance that the empeg communicaty can help, I suggest you post your question here or seek contact via ICQ / e-mail somebody

If it truly is the same as my problem and the log is the same, the hard drive is not plugged in. I know first hand how frustrated this is. But be assured they will help you get it fixed and it works perfect after that.
Rob, I know you were going to bring this up with the head of manufacturing. Also, maybe a dab of soft non permanent glue would help if it is coming out during shipping. And I'm sure it will experience just as much of a bumpy ride in my car as it did in shipping over time.

Absolutely no need to glue the disk cable into place (if it is the IDE cable that ypu're talking about). From my experience (have fitted HDD's in two empegs) the connectors sit so tight that they're really difficult remove. The problem may be the fact that they're so tight. One needs a bit of confidence to properly sit the connectors. I can imagine someone inexperienced being too careful. Too bad this didn't show up when the first 40 were shipped.
Rest assured, if it *is* the connector, it will be simple to fix

rjeddore@writeme.com I have already written the email address you have set up in your profile... I guess you don't use that one anymore? The log is identical... well except for the mac address and stuff like that . Hoping to hear from you soon as my stomach is starting to wear thin and I think an ulcer is in short order. Looking forward to finding out... although Tony is ICQing me info now... but I still gotta get the go ahead from empeg before I risk my warranty. (And to think, my girlfriend has borrowed my digital camera for the weekend... maybe I can borrow someone elses!) #170... I got SN: 080000101 12 gig Blue!

I think my email is working, I clicked on it and sent myself an email. If you typed it in, people mistake the "l"(lower case L) with a "1"(one). I should change it but I'm afraid to lose contacts.

Try using their email addresses. They probably check those more often than they read this board.

The phones were covered all day until about 8pm (usually 11:30pm but our night guy had to work most of the day to cover absent staff). If the phone is busy, you get voicemail, and it's worth leaving a message.
info@empeg.com and support@empeg.com should have been covered for the same period, although very technical enquiries are passed to an appropriate developer and can take a little while to get a response, especially as Hugo was off site all day at a meeting.
ICQ wasn't covered at all - that goes direct to my PC and I was out all day at the same meeting as Hugo (and Steve).
We're looking to take on more customer facing people in the near future, but in the mean time I apologise for the difficulty you experienced contacting us.

This was one of the things brought up in the meeting. The QA people are going to check how securely the cables are being connected, and if it's decided that assembly isn't the problem we're going to use a dab of hot melt glue.

The cables are different to the Mk.1 - they're custom made for us by a connector specialist.

Come now, Rob, you mustn't leave yourself open like that. You must've been expecting some smartaleck comment like this... Hopefully these aren't the same "specialists" that screwed up the cables. George

Ahh... what's he gonna do? NOT sell me an Empeg? Doubtful, hehe. Though, perhaps my reg# is currently being re-shuffled to the bottom of the pile. It's all in good fun. Play nice now guys! George

Rene,
We don't have an automated response system - if you get an email, it comes from a human. If it simply says "your email has been forwarded to person xxx" then you can at least be sure that it is receiving attention.
I sent you an email several hours ago (maybe after you posted here though) which I hope will resolve the problem with your player.

These are different specialists, who manufacture IDC connectors (and crimp the cable to our specification). Unfortunately the connectors that they use for laptop drives suffer one or two problems which I'm surprised they haven't addressed. We've had to work around this, and I think our work-around may be causing a few cables to become dislodged in transit. To put it in context, we've shipped about 200 players and only 3 clients have experienced this problem. Hopefully it will be totally eliminated from next week, when our work-around for the work-around is implemented. Overall we're experiencing far fewer teething problems than we had with the Mk.1 player, and we're quite happy with the situation. I'd guess we have quite a lot of happy clients out there, since my mailbox isn't full of hate mail Rob

I didn't mean to insinuate (spelling) that you guys had automated reponse... but the way the email was wrote to me that's the way it came across. I have mainly good stuff to say about you guys and trust me... if most of my friends had the money they'd be filling out order forms right now! It was kinda scary and disheartening for me though because the day I opened the package and tried to show it off the unit hung in place and I couldn't get a hold of anyone... for the first time! Please understand that I was a little over anxious... I mean after reading the BBS for over a year... or however long it has been online. and registering a long time ago (# 170!!!) I was a little over anxious.. especially since I had ordered a set of rims which arrived the day after the empeg... but the tires are yet to arrive! (empeg isn't the only compamy with delays. ) I need something to work for me once in a while. And right now the empeg is playing happily on my desk and I don' think my computer will ever be hooked up to my amp anymore... heaven forbid my empeg shall die again! All in all empeg guys are great... sure they might have been worried about the $100 to ship the mepg back and forth to plug in a drive cable... but rest assured no one else after this week will have to worry about it. Now if only the boot image upload was automated in emplode! Later guys.. hic hic... (though I haven't had so much to drink as my buddy... just hope he didn't leave any stains on my rear bumper. #170... I got SN: 080000101 12 gig Blue!

I would point out that we were very willing to ship back any of these players with drive connection problems at our expense. Our warranty policy has always been to cover the cost of shipping in both directions.
In this case, the clients involved all expressed a strong interest to fix the (straight forward) problem themselves to avoid further delay. We were happy to accommodate this - I think it was an "everyone wins" decision.
