Hi All,

My empeg is doing some funky stuff...

I'm getting a Contact Support error message, but the weird thing is - if I take the drives and drive tray out of the empeg and let it sit on the edge of the empeg when it boots up, it comes up fine. If I have the drives and tray sitting inside the empeg, I get the error. Think it's a cable issue?

The cable doesn't seem to be pinched or crimped in any way when it's inside the empeg, but the pressure on the connectors may be enough to cause it to lose some connectivity...?

Thoughts?

- Jon

My empeg did the same, turned out that cable connector was loose at the board. A friend of mine fixed it in about 3 minutes. Of course it could be the cable on yours, but at least you've ruled out the hard drive itself.

Did he have to take the cable apart to fix it? I have some people here at work that could probably fix it if that is the issue... What did he do to fix it?

No mine was a footer on the cable connection to the board...
You could just barely see that there was a crack in the soldering. So a spot of solder on the board and I was up and running. If that isn't it then you should just contact Patrick for a new cable. You should have it in a couple of days. Also you can try using the other connector on the ide cable.

The Rev's problem was a dry solder joint on the IDE header. I only resoldered the connection to the one pin that broke. It was exactly as you describe...when the cable was held a certain way, it worked great. If your player is under warranty, I'd urge you to send it in, as they'll resolder all the connections instead of just the broken one and you won't have to worry about hosing your player.

Patrick could provide top quality technical support for the car player, if you didn't mind the cable shipping sometime next Easter.

Email me for a new cable first. If that doesn't fix the problem, then I'll bring it in to resolder the IDE header.
