I searched the FAQ and this BBS but cannot seem to find which wire is the inverted TTL between the tuner and empeg. Could anyone help me out with this? Is there a listing of which wire is which somewhere?

Hmm, developer info section doesn't have that information. Just lists a group of wires that say "tuner tuner tuner tuner..."

Exactly. The most relevant thread appears to be here:

http://empeg.comms.net/php/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=empeg_tech&Number=37423&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1 but it never mentions which wire it is.

hi bob,

Funny you should raise this as I was looking for this info last week and couldn't find it either.
[maybe Morphic Resonance?]

I do recall a post from Hugo about what each wire "does" on the tuner connector, but he did not elaborate on which tuner connector pin does what in detail.

Note I am sure that there are 2 inverted TTL serial link signal wires between the Tuner and the Empeg - 1 for data from the Empeg to the Tuner, and another for the data from the Tuner to the Empeg.

You should also note Hugos comments about needing 10K in-line resistors between the empeg and the "serial" device (if the other deivce is not an actual Tuner module) to prevent lockups and other problems during docking/undocking.

I also point out Hugos comment that Mk2A's have these resistors on the main board already, so do not need them, its only the original Mk2's that need them.

This Thread here has some info on what the tuner interface is, but no pinouts.

It occurs to me that a peek at Patrick's tuner-assembly PDF instructions might reveal all the necessary information.

Hi number6,

Good to here from you. Thanks for the info. Though I've been very busy workwise, I have a little freetime and thought I'd try to finish up the interface project we started last winter http://empeg.comms.net/php/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=empeg_tech&Number=58633&page=&view=&sb=&o=&vc=1. I was exploring the tuner interface as an alternative hookup.

Tony,

There is wiring information in Patrick's awesome instruction manual but I don't know if his wires coincide with those of the OEM tuner.

Ooops, I guess I didn't read down far enough. I just noticed a diagram of the molex connector in Patrick's instructions a few pages down from the tuner wiring diagram.

Thanks Tony

I don't know if his wires coincide with those of the OEM tuner.

Um... THINK ABOUT THAT statement for a moment. It will all become clear if you simply ponder the implications.

Ah, I see you managed to squeak in a reply before I got mine in.

What I was trying to say was "of course it has to match the OEM wiring, because it has to plug in to the same OEM connector".

Pondering any further will only prolong my embarrassment

For ease of reference, the 8 way Molex 'tuner' connector is wired as follows:

1 - Pink - level
2 - Grey - signal
3 - Blue - Power Ant (not connected on wiring harness)
4 - Black - 0v
5 - Brown - TX
6 - Red - RX
7 - Purple - unknown (not used in PCATS tuner)
8 - Blue - 12v

If you are unsure of the numbering of the Molex connector, please check Patrick's tuner manual at http://www.pcats.co.uk/manual.html

Are the developer info gnomes reading this thread?

The purple wire is probably one of the I2S lines. The other two I2S lines are actually shared with the AM/FM wires. No clue which wires are what though and from what I remember it's not even been tested. Hugo said that it was to support DAB tuners.
