I've searched through the forums and not found an answer to what I'm experiencing so I thought I'd post... I have Rio Car... 60 GB HiJack 299.. Loaded with stuff. Well, I generally take the player out of my car at night and put it back in in the morning before work. Lately, because it's been MUCH cooler here, I've been leaving the player in my car rather than carrying it into work with me. Well, it never fails that when coming back out to my car, the player will hang at boot... either at the "Car" logo or on "Loading Visuals". I've always been able to get it to go past this by a combination of taking the player in and out SEVERAL times while the car was running and/or turning the car off and pulling the player out. The ONLY time this hang up occurs, though, is when the player is left in the car for any length of time - 2 hours isn't long enough as I found out while going to a movie this weekend. I have NO problems like this when I put the player back in the car in the morning nor does the problem appear when I take the player into work and then put it back in when I leave... I know the answer to the problem could be "just take it with you wherever you go"... but that's not an option most of the time... So what is causing the problem? Anyone have any ideas?

It is likely IDE problems exacerbated by the cold. Click here.

Only one thing doesn't make sense... By Cooler here I mean 80-85F as opposed to 98F with a car temp over 140F

Heat, cold, whatever. Any change in temperature, especially if it's cable trouble or a dry solder joint on the IDE header, could do it.

What version of the software are you using? I'm assuming 1.03 because you don't get the No Hard Disk Found message. If you were running 2.0x, then you'd get the No Hard Disk Found message.

Good point. Then it might not be HDD trouble if he's not getting that message.

That is a normal message and does not indicate an error.
