Hi,
i have looked and tried, but cant find a way of doing it, so maybe its not there yet ?

I want to be able to manually tune the frequency to where i know a station is, then store it, even when there is no signal on that frequency.

Even though i live in London and we have FM stations coming out of our ears, sometimes the autoscan does not pick all of the stations up.

I hope i haven't missed a simple Auto/Manual toggle in the menu anywhere....

If you can use the remote, "Search", then enter a frequency, without the decimal. Then hit ok, and it will tune to that. You can then store it.

ah, yeah, i did find that but forgot to mention in the post.. doh!

thats a bit of a pain when actually moving... or using the kenwood remote

a manual tune that goes in 0.25 or 0.5 increments would be much easier from a driving perspective i think

its a very standard feature on tuners

i very very rarely use the remote, except when trying to find the right visual, as its too awkward from within the car, imho

I don't know of a way to use the knob or buttons to do it unless you install hijack and have some fun with ir_translate

FWIW one of the Sony Stalk functions does this, it manually steps through the frequencies. Not sure if this is helpful to you or not. I have the same problem with tuning far away Boston stations.

do you mean that the stalk can do this, and the function works on the empeg ?
or that the stalk is capable of doing it, but its not functional on the empeg ?

thats a usable workaround if it works.....

The stalk can - and does - tune manually for me.

If you have Hijack, you could re-map the front panel buttons to the stalk or remote functions in tuner mode.

I believe I will take a few minutes right now and enhance the "KnobSeek" virtual button in Hijack to act as a "manual tuning knob" when in tuner mode..

I mean that the default mappings with the Sony stalk provide this functionality. My empeg and (credit card style) remote don't do this out-of-the-box.

Mmm, strange; I'm *sure* it always used to be possible to single-step frequencies from the remote (though not the front panel as short=preset skip and long=search).

Possibly this is a kenwood remote-only function, ie a bit of an oversight...

ISTR the same as you, Hugo:

Front panel: short=prev/next preset, long=seek
Rio remote: short=tune down/up, long=seek
Stalk: short=tune down/up, long=seek

But I generally use the stalk rather than the remote. The front-panel behaviour always surprises me - I ought to re-map it in Hijack, really.

It is Kenwood-only, although I don't consider it an oversight.

The Kenwood remote has four buttons dedicated to radio tuning features. The Rio remote only has two. So only the Kenwood remote has the ability to increment/decrement the frequency by one digit. For those who are interested, details are in the button guide here.

The reason I don't consider it an oversight is because you can still numerically enter a frequency using either remote. Yes, I know it's not easy to do that while you're driving, but you shouldn't be fiddling with anything except the "next preset" feature while you're driving anyway.

EDIT: I'm adding this paragraph for posterity's sake. The above text is wrong. You can do increment/decrement frequency from both brands of remote, just not from the front panel. Please refer to the button guide for the correct information.

i will get the latest hijack and try that out.

i must admint, i never tried the options on the kenwood remote, as i never use it.. so if that does what i want, i can manually set a few stations like that.

Checked it last night - next/prev on the Rio remote does indeed invoke the fine-tuning action, not the preset action.

If that's true, then my button guide is wrong. I'll have to check that. Probably was a software revision after I wrote the button guide.

Is the Button Guide part of the FAQ? I might reconsider my estimate of the worth of those words...

I'm reasonably sure that the remote next/prev have been mapped to manual tune since I got my tuner, using 1.03.

The button guide is on riocar.org and is linked from the FAQ. I consider it part of the FAQ.

Question, are you still using 1.03? I have made sure the button guide conforms to 2.0, which I know is different in many respects than 1.03.

I'm using the latest public beta - currently 2.0b13. HTH.

The way the RioRemote works is, a "short" press does manual tuning (albiet that would get tedious fast, doing it one small press at a time), and a "long" press does a seek to the next strong station.
