I've just seen this on The Register :
Fujitsu to replace 300,000 faulty HDDs
and the follow up here
This apparently affects drives manufactured between September 2000 and 2001. Does anyone know the dates that the Empeg fujisu drives were manufactured?

I didn't see anywhere in that article where they said the problem was in laptop drives.

My point was that obviously not all of their hard drives are shipped to peecee manufacturers, and without further info, there's no way to tell whether their problem affected only 3.5" drives or if it affected their 2.5" drives, too. All it really said was that it was bad semiconductors.

The Fujitsu drive I have here was manufactured in April, 2001, BTW.

yup said semiconductors were bad, they were talking about it in relation to desktops though, and didnt make mention of if it only affected desktop drives or if it also affected laptop drives. I wondered as well if this has anything to do with the drive problems people seem to be having with their fujitsus. I have 2 30 gig fujitsus in my riocar and have had many occurences of "no hard disk found" . Maybe it has something to do with it.

I'll have to check into that because my company uses their drives and we are always replacing them, sometimes more than once. We use the desktop models and they are crap.

I wouldn't have a Fujitsu hard drive anywhere near any of my gear if I can help it.

I've had nothing but trouble with nearly every Fujitsu drive ever used in any desktop or laptop I've come across.

In fact the only Fujitsu drive I know that is still running ok is the 6GB one in my business partners old IBM 600E Thinkpad - I expect it to die anytime soon, so I make sure we have good backups of this laptop and don't use it for anything critical.

We had a batch of 3 Compaq desktops all bought at the same time from the main local Compaq distributor all go bad within 6 months of being installed.
All 3 had sudden drive failures, the last in November last year.

As soon as I found they all had Fujitsu drives that simply reinforced what I already new - Fujitsu drives are bad news - replace them if you can before they die.

I agree... and I have only dealt with 3 fugitsu drives in my player... weird problems with all of them.... In fact, to get little things like jemplode to see hijack, I installed a 5gb IBM drive... I've only had bad experience with Fujitsu!

They dont say that the problem is for Laptop drives ..

The problem you are describing is typically what happens at the beginning of the END.
I explain.

At my job, the past year we ordered 150 Fujitsu Scenic eT for local sites.

The symptoms are :

At the starting of the computer : Scandisk is launched even if you shut off the PC in a good way...

Sometimes, you have this message : Operating System not found.

The HDD is not recognized by the Bios... and the OS is starting randomly.

Firstable, they proposed us to apply a Patch, no success the HDD ard dying one by one ....

Finally, every time there is one dead, it is replaced by an other (not a Fujistsu) and we have to reinstall all applications (pffff !!!!!)
it is luck that all PC's have a 3 years warranty extension.....

It is clear that the message harddrive not found is typically the symptom you have when HDDD is Fujistu.

dont know what for Laptops Drvies ...
