I just recently moved from Raleigh, North Carolina to Lakewood, Colorado. The trip was 3 days and 1800 miles. I'm so glad I had my empeg with me. Didn't hear the same song twice. A little advice: Don't drive through Kansas whilst listening to Tool - it will make you question your sanity. Then again, just driving through Kansas will make you question your sanity. Now, if the empeg could only help me find a job.... Lousy layoffs! Anyone in need of a software engineer in the Denver area? Will code for food.

I just recently drove from San Diego, CA to Vancouver, BC and back. I think the round-trip was just over 3,000 miles.

I took my 60GB empeg which was only half-full. Didn't listen to the same song twice. No problems what-so-ever.

So you got laid off in Raleigh and randomly picked Colorado as a place to look for a job? I'd think DC would have been a closer choice with better prospects.

Yeah, recently I had the info screen switched to "playlist remaining" and noticed that it said that my empeg had over six days worth of music on it. Keeping in mind that no one ever drives for 24 hours straight, it's basically telling me that even with my meager collection, I could take an 18-day road trip without hearing the same song twice. Wow.

I've got a much more sane "Road Trip" playlist now, which is the cream of the crop, and it's 12 hours. Covers most of the road trips I make to San Jose or LA.

No, I've always wanted to move out here. I'm about 2 minutes away from the Rockies, and I was getting tired of the humid, hot weather. DC would be cool - me being a Redskins fan - but it has no mountains and way too much TRAFFIC.

Yeah. Now you can deal with the summer hail (like the kind we had in Cary last week -- dammit! ).

Woohoo! A Redskins fan! I'm going to the season opener this weekend. The whole fate of the team is up in the air as far as I'm concerned.

Anyway, you're right about the weather and the traffic. I pitty al those poor saps who go up 95 through the Springfield interchange every morning. My dad's office is in NW DC. There was once a guy working there who lived in Fredericksburg. For those of you who don't know, Fredericksburg is an hour drive south of DC without traffic. That means it took him AT LEAST 2 hours every morning and every night to commute. And he worked there for over 30 years! I think the guy had permanent bags under his eyes.

You moved to Metro Denver to avoid traffic? Wow. Oh well, at least project TREX should have things cleaned up around there. The construction here in Colorado Springs sucks. They started years ago on the 3 lane expansion project, and are still nowhere close to complete. Plus I don't have cool things like alerts sent to my e-mail about TREX traffic inconviences on the way to work.

On the job front, I don't know much of anything that is open right now.

Yeah, I've been hearing about this TREX thing. I just meant compared to DC, Denver traffic isn't that bad - yet anyway. I-70 seems to be pretty good. I live west of Denver in Lakewood, so it's pretty light around here. Then again, I haven't driven to work, because I don't have a job...

I-70 has had some nice improvements lately, including the HOV lanes.

As far as TREX, all the info is here: http://www.trexproject.com/

Oh yeah, this rules for traffic status in the Denver area. It's also the reason radar detectors are worthless now too though :-)
