Why is there no "troubleshooting" forum on the BBS? The General Forum is too large to be able to find anything useful...

My problem: After returning from a 4 weeks holiday, my Empeg MkII does not work properly.
It plays music, and the display works (I don't know whether the dimmer is OK or not), but the buttons, rotary and remote do not work. Sometimes one or all these work for a short time after booting the machine, and then the stop working.
The same problems when running off AC power.

I have never removed the display board, and I opened the case to check that the connectors are still connected. The cables also looked OK at first glance.

I am running beta11 and Hijack 200-something. I have not done the capacitor-fix, and my player has earlier showed signs that it would really want this fix.

Right now, I've got the player into the "play all songs randomly" mode, so that I have music in the car, and I just pull out the unit if It is too loud or anything.
I haven't tried to sync it, because I seem to remember it may be put into "pause" mode by this, and It'll be difficult for me to get it out of there.

Any suggestions? Will I have to send it to Cambridge? (It's long past warranty)

I know you have made a stuck jiffies post in the past. So, I am reluctant to say load Beta 13 because you may be running a version of Hijack that fixed your past problem. But, from what I gather, it sounds like you have the stuck jiffies.

If you recently loaded a newer version of Hijack, I think post-Beta13 have the jiffies fix removed due to it being addressed in Beta13. I never had the jiffies and don't run Hijack, so I may be speaking out my ass.

Good reply. But I'm quite sure I have a version with the stuck jiffies fixed. And, it probbably wouldn't be so consistent? I'll re-flash with beta13 in a week (when I don't need the machine so much) if I haven't fixed it.
I seem to remember I've got one of the last hijack-versions which don't alter the waving tux bootup-logo :-)

FWIW, one of my mk2s has the same problem. I tried upgrading to beta 13, but it got stuck on pumping the partition. My wife was on her way out the door for a week's vacation, so I haven't been able to do any more troubleshooting yet.

Because the Technical and Bug Reports forums are fine for those things. The former for hardware problems, the latter for software problems.

It's probably the display fuse, on the main circuit board.

There's a few of us here who know how to testt/replace it, or to help you do the same.

... that doesn't sound like the thing listed in the FAQ. I recommend that you contact support instead.
