Check all your fuses on the main board to make sure that they haven't blown.

Also, contact empeg support

Sounds like it could be a display fuse. Is your unit under warranty? It's a fiddly surface mount component, not for the faint hearted or the ham fisted! Probably worth dropping David a line. You say you've taken your unit apart, did you disconnect you display board? If so, were you super careful when putting it back? Some of the early backlit button hackers accidentally put the display connector back off by one pin therefore blowing the fuse.
Support contact details are in the riocar.org FAQ. Hope everything works out...

Yup. If you attached it one off, which is what your diagram seems to show, you likely blew a fuse. Although your symptoms don't quite match what we've seen previously, check out My display has become garbled.

When the display goes dim, check if there is a 'dimmer' option in the settings menu. The player maybe thinking it is in the car after you bring the unit out of standby.

Have you checked all three fuses?

Does the remote work when the display is working at full brightness, or not at all?

Install 1.03 firmware without hijack.

There are three fuses right next to each other. If you connected the display board offset by one pin then you have almost certainly blown one of them. If you're unlucky you may have taken out a component.

Either way it should be a simple service job - contact David. carsupport@sonicblue.com

Great, now take care with those connectors in future. It sounds like you're experienced with electronics, and experienced people are always the worst for making the simple mistakes
