Okay, so it's not like I'm going to go out and buy one, but what exactly are the Type-R and Type-S options on certain models of Hondas? I mean, I'm aware that they're the souped-up versions, but I cannot find information that states how they're souped-up.

Other manufacturers seem more than willing to tell you about their special models (BMW M3 and M5, Saab Viggen, etc.), but www.hondacars.com seems to not even mention Type-R or Type-S. In fact, a Google search turns up nothing.

In the US, Honda sells their higher-end cars under the name Acura. I know the Acura RSX Type-S is on this site.

Yeah, and they do talk about Type-S on that site (thanks -- that was half my question, possibly), but those are only Acura models. And, AFAIK, those are Acura models internationally (except for the NSX). What about the Honda-specific models, like the Civic Type-R, etc?

I am not a street ricer, but I am not familiar with the Civic Type-R like on the UK site. I don't think I've ever seen one. I do however see American Standard Type-Rs every now and then.

I could type everything, its alot, or I could point you to a link. You will have to register for the site which isnt a big deal but you will have to do it. Once you are registered go look in the articles--> then info/FAQs---> after that there is a section about the Integra Type-R. The same type of thing is done to all Type-R models (ie civic). Type-S on the other hand really isnt all that much the engine are a bit more powerful but the cars dont give up luxury for performance as you would expect to find in a Type-R.

I found some information that said that the Type-S also got the port-and-polish treatment and also has a different suspension and integrated ABS and traction control in addition to the larger engine. I'm also under the impression that the Type-Rs are stripped down somewhat.

As far as I know at least on the RSX/Integra Type-S. The S has over the base model... a 6 speed tranny, slighty higher compression, higher performance cams and I slightly different Intake Manifold well alot different its metal instead of plastic. The only real Type-Rs in the states were available in the 97,98,00,01 years of the Integra, all other cars with Type-R on them are wannabe punks who wish they could graduate HS.

Until recently, I had believed that there is no such thing as a US version of the Civic Type R. I was proved wrong, however, when I found several Type R Civic Coupes for sale on eBay, in various states. And yes, they are left-hand drive. So they do exist, but I don't know if Honda makes them anymore, or if they ever advertised them.

I myself would love to have a '99 Civic Type R Coupe. I happen to be fond of some small quirks in the body styling of a '99 which I like more than in my '98 (only an EX).

There has never been a Type-R Civic here in the states, unless it was imported from Japan or one of the countries that got them, and even if they did make one it would not be a coupe but it would be a hatchback. What you have seen on eBay are fakes. They may have even put the B16B engine from a JDM Civic Type-R into the coupe but still it will never be a real Type-R. Real Type-R's are more than just an engine.

That's what I had thought, too. Especially since I couldn't find information on them from Honda. But it looked pretty authentic to me. I suppose they could have just dropped in the appropriate engine and called it a Type R Coupe.

All it takes to look authentic is a red valve cover and some badges and some cheap racing seats.
