I am trying to upgrade my empeg hijack kernel. i currently have v265 and i want to upgrade to v291, I am running windows 2000 Professional build 2195. i have installed the newest version of emplode beta13, but whenever i try to upgrade using beta13 emplode or v41 of jemplode it always says No Device Found. and whenever i use Empeg Logo Editor v1.4 it says "Error: Failed to open COM port." is there a specific setting i have to have my com port set to? its COM2. i dont remember having these problems last time i tried to upgrade from the original kernel when i purchased my Mpeg Mark2a. this same com port was used for an IRDA device for my palm pilot to upload items to and from my PC. could this have affected the com port? i just unplugged the device and plugged the serial cable provided with the empeg to the empeg but it doesnt recognize that its there....please let me know your suggestions all you empeg masters out there!

Disable your palm software before attempting to use the COM port from another application. That's probably the root of the problem and will clear everything up.

If that doesn't work...

See if you can communicate with the player via hyperterminal. Instructions here. If hyperterminal can't see the player, nothing else can either.

I disabled the Infrared Device in my Device Manager and tried again with no prevail, i then tried to connect with HyperTerminal and when i rebooted i got a bunch of text, i assume the normal prompts:

empeg-car bootstrap v1.02 20001106 (hugo@empeg.com)
If there is anyone present who wants to upgrade the flash, let them speak now,
or forever hold their peace...it seems not. Let fly the Penguins of Linux!

e000 v1.04
Copying kernel...
Calling linux kernel...
Uncompressing Linux....................................... done, booting the kernel.
Linux version 2.2.14-rmk5-np17-empeg50-hijack-v265 (root@tbird.localnet) (gcc ve
rsion 2.95.3 20010315 (release)) #2 Wed May 1 11:01:24 EDT 2002

ETC....
i assume this means the serial port is working fine and the empeg is working fine, what are my options at this point?
