Hello all,
A new version is created (1.03) of the MS-Word macro using Empeg database in CSV-format as input for generating an overview of all albums and artist (see also this post, and example here).
This version does not contain extra features but more/better error handling and 'easier to access' by providing a button to start the macro.
Tested on
Office 97/2000 on Win NT/2000. Another member justinlarsen confirmed that it was also working on Office XP for him.
In case of problems check
- Have Excel closed before starting the macro (don't ask me why)
- Do you have Excel installed (requirement)?
- Are your security settings for the macro set to high? If so, lower them (and restart word). (Thx Neutrino and crazymelki)
- In case of system errors, compiler errors or 'object does not exist': this is possible due to the fact I'm using a VB runtime library to open a file dialog (comdlg32.ocx). If you not have them (check for given OCX-file), go to next page of microsoft: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;EN-US;Q192461&
In the future I will try to remove that requirement. It a quite common problem that VB(A) programmers faces (like me), because they have the runtimes themselves when Visual Basic was installed. But for the end-users... they do often not have VB installed (thx for this crazymelki)
It is possible that I'm very quite coming 3 weeks since I'm going on holiday, so relax..
After my holiday I will continue and adding more features and sorting/catalogue formats.
Have fun,
Eize

I am also having problems. First off I have downloaded comdlg32.ocx as mentioned earlier, and placed it in the windows directory. I have also tried it in the windows/system and system32 folders. I installed VB6SP5 runtime files to make sure everything was up to date. Macro security is set to low, and I have even turned off my antivirus software.
I open the file in Word, and hit ALT-F8. "Could not load an object because it is not available on this machine." I hit ok, and it brings up the dialog box. I hit run, and I get the same error again. Hit OK, then the generator box comes up. I hit browse, and get (title) Microsoft Visual Basic, and the error says "Compile error in hidden module: IntroDlg"
Win XP Pro, Office XP Pro.

Well I just tried to get it run on Office XP. I was getting the error "The macro cannot be found or has been disabled because of your Macro security settings".
Tools->Macros->Security was set to high so I changed it to low. However, Word doesn't recognise this unless you close it and restart Word (it doesn't tell you this though). Once I closed and restarted Word it was all good. I verified the restart problem by setting security back to high and the macro worked fine until I restarted Word.
Correction: You must change the security settings before you open the word document. Aloso medium security is OK as long as you say "Enable Macros" when you open the file
I did NOT install the VB6 runtimes to get it to work on Office XP/Win2k

Unfortunately, I have restarted Word many times, security setting stay at low, and even rebooted after installing new files, ie VB runtime files. I also made sure I have SP1 installed. My computer must just be lame. It's probably jealous of my empeg!

I am also getting the "compile error" message with the new version. Win2K, correct file library, etc etc. The earlier version works on my box??

Yup. Same with me. I've re-started many times with the Macro security settings at all kinds of different levels and I always get that error...

No go for me. Maybe its time to fdisk and start from scratch.... of course I did that once before due to my empeg, and it sucked.

Please don't go that way...
I see to many people thinking at the end: OK, now FDISK'ing my stuf and restart from scratch.
BTW: just installing the commdlg.ocx does not work because it has to be registered, that why I mentioned to complete installation of the VB-runtime libraries.
I'm realy disapointed about all problems I read here when trying to use my macro with Office-XP. After my holiday I will try to get hand on XP too to handle these problems better. The security settings are real pain.
Before I'm leaving I will submit a version (based on 1.03) which does not use the VB-stuff (now it uses the common dialog object from VB-libs for displaying the file-open dialog). With that version you will have to enter the full filename+path manually. That will solve the compiling problems (in IntroDlg).
Keep in touch!

I've just generated my Word document, and I must say this is an absolutely fantastic tool! Not only for passengers, but it really highlights to those who don't really understand the Empeg exactly WHAT you can fit on it. A chap here looked quite stunned as I thunked the massive printout on his desk!
Thank you for doing this!

I just tried it, and it works fine -- to a point.
About a quarter of the way through, there's an off-by-one error, and it stops labelling the albums correctly. Instead, it uses the first track from the album, and leaves the name of the album in normal text as if it was a track on the previous album.
See the attachment for an example. It's got Now 25 (on the left-hand page) completely correct, but starting with "Now 31 - Disc 1", it's using the title of the next album as a track, causing an off-by-one error.
I don't know whether there's something wrong with my data, or whether it's just the size of it -- the CSV file is available at http://www.differentpla.net/~roger/empeg/car/files/crowley.csv.zip

I can see why you want that fixed... having 'MMMBOP' by Hansen in bold does draw attention to it...

Thx for reply.
I know what you mean... same faces here when I gave them my papers. Much better visualisation of what amount of music resides on the Empeg.
If you have some suggestions for next releases, give me a yell. I'm now back from holiday and have planned to do some more programming in the macro.
Cheers,
