jEdit is a java-based text editor with syntax highlighting, smart indentation, code completion and a plethora of plugins you can install to do things like validation, tidying, etc. I use it as my main text editor for c/xhtml/xml coding. A bonus is that if you ever decide to switch PC platforms (win/mac/linux) you will always have your favorite editor.
