Laser Radiation Warning - 10/06/2002 17:07
I recently saw a review of the Rio Central with a picture of the rear of the unit in Sound and Vision Magazine. In this picture there is a warning under the optical digital output port (appears to be a Toslink connector) stating the presence of laser radiation. Since when do Toslink modules output laser radiation? Certainly it would make little sense to use a more expensive laser diode when an LED based Toslink module would do just fine. Does the actual production unit feature such a warning?

I don't think we have a production unit with stickers to check against in Cambridge, but are you sure it isn't the statutory warning relating to the CD mech?

No, it doesn't appear to be related to the CD mech. I'm looking at the picture of the back of the unit right now and there's a label which says "Digital Out" and directly below that is some verbage inside a box that states "Laser Radiation Do Not Stare Into Beam - Class 1 Laser Product" and then below that is the actual digital output. Just doesn't make sense to me.

It's a normal LED. Maybe someone in marketing got confused with the warnings you need on CD players and stuff got merged.
