Heroism comes cheap

It seem every frickin' time I turn on the TV in the You-Ess of Aye, I am inundated with "Hero-this" and "Hero-that" Hero, Hero, Hero. Well, I am sick of it. All you have to do is cap a leaky fire hydrant or set the parking brake on a garbage truck and you are a Hero.

Well, throw this down.

Why this not required reading?

It should be. I first learned about this story several years ago and was incredibly moved by this man and his completely self-sacrificing act. He had to know that being killed or spending the rest of his life in prison was the likely outcome, but he unhesitatingly did the moral (and extremely unpopular) thing.

Have you read McCain's book On Courage? It begins with another astonishing story, I can't remember the soldier's name ATM.

SFC Randy Shughart and MSG Gary Gordon's stories should be required reading, too, IMHO.

Thanks for sharing this.
