Ebay Goof - 16/03/2005 14:01

In one of the messages that ebay sends to your inbox, I received a message telling me I could sell some of the items I have recently purchased for a profit. Take a look at how much they claim I can make...

They encourage you to re-resell stuff? Weird. They should put in images of what you actually bought instead of The DaVinci Code, The South Beach Diet, and that Britney (?) CD, though. Of course, since they can't figure out "if (profit > 0)", I can't imagine their automated image manipulation would be well constructed, either.

Why weird? They get a cut if you re-sell it on ebay. If the same item gets resold often enough, they might end up making more money on the item than any of the individual sellers.

Yeah, I understand that. I guess less "weird" and more "creepy".

Hopefully one day this process will be optimised so that everyone just sends a cheque to Ebay and all that pointless, unnecessary crap you see on Ebay needn't even be manufactured in the first place.

Heh, reminds me of one of the Dirk Gently books where they create a robot to watch TV for them because they can't keep up with it all.

Yup. Adams was a visionary in some respects!

Well, if you need to farm any of it out, I'm available for free*.
