For my own reasons I need to make the number pad key "/" send an "_" . I searched version tracker but there seems to be a lot of chaff in there.

Any one have a recommendation for a simple utility to make that redefinition.

While I don't know of a specific tool, you might want to look for something that can edit locals, so you can just tell windows to change the locale to your custom one for the keyboard.

I used 'keyboard express' to remap the '+' key on the number pad to be a tab.
I miss it so much I think I'll look for it again.

Is it W2k / XP ? This might work for you

If not, you can tweak anything that returns a scan code via the registry which is painful, but you're only doing two keys so shouldn't take more than, ooh, an hour or so.

MS has info here

And there's a key scanner here

I used the registry method to remap my right Ctrl key to Del on my Dell laptop. I couldn't stand not having a delete key next to the arrow pad. I have to say this is way better than having yet another program running to do the keymapping.

Careful your Penguin is showing.

KeyTweak seems to just allow moving scancodes around. Perfect is you are swapping the key caps around on the keyboard. "_" is a shifted key, so this isn't going to work. It's a great utilitty to keep from diving into the regestry.

I must be missing something about KeyboardExpress. a hotkey compiler that dosen't seem to allow selecting, for remap, character generating keys. Easy to use, but turning keypad / into underscore dosen't seem to be in its vocabulary.

*pick* *pick* *pick* Oh, I didn't see you there... I was just picking nits!

xmodmap predates Linux by at least 4 years, if not more. The original was written by David Rosenthal, of Sun Microsystems, back in 1987 (or earlier).

But somehow saying "Your Standford University of Network is showing." didn't quite sound right.
