Re: cool little video - 16/01/2004 12:53

I want to see someone build an actual working transformer.

And I don't mean like the life-size Gundam replica that doesn't transform. I mean, I want to see someone build an actual object that has all of the motors and actuators and such to convert from car to robot and back again. Doesn't have to be full size, doesn't have to actually "Walk" or drive or anything. I just think it would be an ultra-cool engineering project.

Rememeber when Go-Bots and Transformers were so cool because you had to "figure them out" and learn how to switch them... Don't they all seem to be the same now?

Re: cool little video - 16/01/2004 16:15

Not only that but the new ones I've seen are made of cheap plastic. I remember them being pretty durable toys with metal castings and parts.
I still remember owning the blue Indy car Autobot. (forgot the name) and being very disappointed when the only plastic part, the part that joined the upper torso and legs together, broke in half.

Sounds like the shift linkage on my VW GTI...

Re: cool little video - 16/01/2004 16:38

I remember as a kid thinking that Transformers were well made but the Go-Bots were pretty cheap in both production and design. I've not gotten any new Transformers, but they mostly seem of poor quality to me.

I'd have to say my favorite transformers were the ones that switched 3 ways, I had a tank/plane/robot and a space shuttle/train/robot. Way cool.

Re: cool little video - 17/01/2004 01:29

I loved my transformers dearly. Boy do I wish I hadn't sold any of them. I think I still have my Optimus Prime (my hero), but other than that I think they're sold off. I remember them being very well made as well.

I was quite disappointed in the new Transformers show. It is the dumbest thing I've seen. They've turned it into some kind of Pokemon clone. I didn't think they could do that to Transformers, but they did. What next, "Transformers: Card Battle"?

What next, "Transformers: Card Battle"?
Clearly. How else do you expect them to make their money?

Re: cool little video - 17/01/2004 02:50

Transformers: Gotta collect them all?

I went round my uncles place the other day and his young kids were watching cartoons on TV. I swear they're reached a new low. There is this one called bayblade or something like that. The premise is that they've got fighting spinning tops which contain ghosts and they battle by bashing into each other... I think that was about the extent of the plot. It was an even more transparent attempt to make a TV programme around some boring collectable game than Pokemon.

Re: cool little video - 17/01/2004 02:58

Whenever I see a program like that on TV (only in passing, mind you, I don't actually watch them, I try to believe that there is some kind of deep intelligent subtext to the story, characters, and plotline, and that the only reason we're not seeing it is that it somehow got lost in the dubbed translation.

I know, I know, preposterous. Hey, we all have our own ways of coping with the horrors of the world around us.

I always felt that Go-bots were to Transformers as Duplo were to Leggos.

Re: cool little video - 17/01/2004 10:41

That might be looking too far into it these days, but I know for sure that the cartoons I watched gowing up were at least more interesting, and seeing some of them now, it amazes me how many jokes in these shows go over the heads of children.
