Configuration Lengthiness

Configuration Lengthiness - 16/06/2002 20:58

Hey,

Is it normal to have to wait for ages when synching? I used to have my Empeg about half full, and synchs used to be fairly rapid, but I decided to get off my ass and get around to dumping the large amount of local music I have been involved with on. This took the Empeg to about 75% full.

Synch went fine, but when it got to "Writing Configuration", it seemed to take ages. I figured it would be stupid to disrupt the poor thing at that (fairly crucial) stage, so I went about my business. Many hours later, I came back and there was no apparent progress. Which seemed odd to me.

I waited a bit more, but felt there was no alternative but to interrupt the operation. I tried pulling the USB cable first, cos I figured yanking comms was less brtual than yanking power, and everythign stayed the way it had for hours. So I pulled the power.

Everythign was fine when it rebooted (settings, etc), but now everytime I synch, It takes ***AGES*** to read or write configuration.

I tried reinstalling 2.00b11, but it hasnt changed anything.

Any ideas? Or is this normal with high space utilisation?

I feel like I hurt my baby, but I dsont see I had another choice - I did wait for hours.....

I did a 20GB sync on mine once using USB - took 13 hours. Won't do that again. I stick to ethernet. I have no idea why yours would have frozen up, though. Might want to talk to one of the tech-heads.

There's a bug with 2.00b11, and favorite visuals, that makes the config.ini file grow out of control if you have favorite visuals set. It's supposed to be FITNR. Quick fix(I think):Go in and delete your favorite visuals. No so Quick Fix, use hijack to FTP the config file, edit it with a text editor to remove all traces of favorite visuals, and upload it back to the player.

Remember that the config-file bug is caused by synching twice in the same Emplode session.

To prevent the bug from coming back, always fully exit emplode 2.0b11 after a synch.

I just dont use the favourite visuals feature any more Tony - less hassle.
