Aw, cute, someone coded an easter egg!

Re: European message?? - 13/06/2002 19:43

Can't get my player to do that, though. Perhaps it's only in Beta 11?

When does the message appear (at which stage during boot)?

Re: European message?? - 13/06/2002 23:30

Aww wow. Cool

Happens to me, after I reboot the machine, about three seconds after the player software has started and the music is playing. Stays up in a box for about 3 seconds, then disappears.

HTH,

Re: European message?? - 13/06/2002 23:40

Get it on mine too Tony - just after the unit has booted and started playing a message pops up on the screen for a few seconds. I have a feeling that someone may have slipped something into the new Hijack (just loaded it last night, and hadn't noticed it yet). If you still don't see it, try changing your tuner settings to "European" ...

so you coming over to the meet then? Doesn't sound like the hotel is booked out or anything yet.

Yup! I've just installed HiJack 2.76 and.... got it here too.

Yay! I love easter eggs!

Re: European massage?? - 14/06/2002 04:04

Search the Hijack patch for 3113...

I wondered why Mark was so keen for us all to upgrade! I didn't understand his comment, "Fixed issue with startup message," as I mis-read which meaning of "issue" he meant - I'm sure the pun is deliberate on his part.

Nice one, Mark!

Edit: give less away...

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 05:51

Mostly you just have to wait for the date to change.. Europeans are just so advanced (a few hours, anyway) compared to the colonials.

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 06:11

Hey, I resemble that!

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 07:08

Mind you, that antipodean colony is even more advanced than us. To the tune of about 8 hours or more

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 10:31

Sadly, no. I have five exams over the next 6 days (out of 11 total, spread over 13 days) which decide 30% of my final University degree, and (if I fail any of them) mean I have to resit the entire idea. So much as the idea is a nice one, I can't spare the time

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 10:32

Incidentally, Mark, what would you have done if this alteration had caused 95% of empegs not to boot up/play on the day? Not that that would ever happen, of course, but the faces of the people at the meet would have been a sight for sore eyes :P

Cheers,

A.

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 11:03

Simple: I would have tested it beforehand, by advancing the date on my own player to ensure no such problems!

And that IS what I did.

Cheers

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 11:42

I feel left out. I'm running Hijack 276, and I've tried advancing the date and everything, and I get no message.

Must be something in my config that's preventing it. Oh well.

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 12:02

Maybe he's checking the time zone???

Edit: Nope, he's not. You advanced the time? hmm...

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 12:05

Install v276, ensure the player's date is set correctly (today is 14-June-2002), and reboot. Watch the screen as the player starts.

Cheers

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 12:06

Oh, did you advance the date to a date still within the month of may? He's checking that it's in May, after the 14th, and after 4pm.

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 12:06

Also ensure the time is set correctly (AM/PM).

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 12:07

Not May, silly.. June! (0 == January).

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 12:11

Ugh. Yeah. It's June, isn't it.

And I use struct tm's all the time in my code at work. I even use them in my empwake alarm clock... Yet on a Friday when my brain is at 10% power at best, I couldn't seem to remember that we're in the month of June.

I need a friggin' beer.

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 12:15

I know, I know, i was only joking - I knew you would have tested it thoroughly. But surely there was just the 0.00001% chance it could have failed on a Mk1 or something?

Oh, did you advance the date to a date still within the month of may?

Damn, now it's my turn to feel stupid. Month and year were wrong on my player. NEVER MIND.

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 12:49

You should have read The FAQ on this very subject.

Sorry, it's Friday and I'm very bored at work.

You should have read The FAQ on this very subject.

Bad boy, messing with my stuff.

I'm going to move that information to the appropriate Easter Egg entry.

Bad boy, messing with my stuff.

Exactly why they don't give me root access at work anymore. Well, on most systems, anyway.

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 13:12

I first read this post last night and then, while at work last evening, reset my time and date....today when I boot my player in the car...Suprise..there it is!

Thanks Mark, it was cool to be included ha ha....

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 13:41

Well, actually.. I rarely test Hijack releases..

Re: European message?? - 14/06/2002 13:44

People who read that FAQ entry are going to be very suprised over the weekend, I guess..

Re: European message?? - 17/06/2002 11:44

Speaking of Easter eggs and the like, there are now at least 7 more people out there who can reiterate pieces of Patricks humour that are printed on the Mk 1 motherboard - a number of these were framed and given as prizes at the meet at the weekend. For example, where the processor is normally soldered it starts off by saying "If you can read this your empeg doesn't work ...". What do you guys reckon "Gordon lives here" on another part of the board means? (and you guys who were at the meet, don't tell them right away - let them stew on it for a while )

Re: European message?? - 17/06/2002 15:59

Is that the Flash part of the motherboard? As in flash gordon?
