Last night, our office got broken into. Looks like they kicked in the glass door. Amazingly, with >$40,000 worth of computer equipment in the building, they only walked off with a broken laptop, my Palm pilot, and the cash out of our Pepsi machine. They missed Russmeister's spare empeg that was in his office on his desk. Not really a huge deal, but there is still the wierd feeling that we were violated. The cops are here now dusting for prints.

I am sorry to hear about that!!! It is not the material loss (it doesn't sound like they got much - probably just "fast cash"), but for the hassle, the violation and the annoyance.

Something to be aware of: what data did you have on the PalmPilot? Not that the thief sounds smart enough (from what you describe) to try identity theft personally, but think of what was on it and how it could be used if someone else bought it from the thief...

Wow, that's really horrible. And worse if that Palm gets into the hands of someone who knows what to do with it. I hope the cops find something that helps get the perps.

Fortunately, they were too dumb to take the cradle it was in. Once it loses its charge I bet it'll get thrown away or pawned.

Even then, I didn't use it for finance, so they could pretty much just use it to call everyone I know, remind themselves of many things, look at my wish lists for new music and movies, play games, etc... No identity theft risk.

My bigger fear is that they'll come back with a truck and clean us out next time.
