How to install Alpha 5 - 08/01/2004 22:03
Ok, so i have emplode 2.10. And i go to upgrade player , and i choose the alpha 5 and it goes through the whole process and then empeg restarts and none of my database is up there. The player says ALPHA 5 when it starts but none of my playlists show up. Any ideas? If i put version 2.00 back up there my playlists show up fine.

Alpha 5 can't build databases. Install Alpha 3, build the databases and then install Alpha 5 (someone correct me if I have this wrong).

Well i installed alpha 3 and the playlists showed up fine.
Then i installed alpha5 and none of the playlists showed up.
Quoting Mark Lord from the "Merry Christmas" thread in General:
After your v3alpha boots, do a SYNC from emplode to write the databases to disk (on boot, they are not written to disk -- read-only filesystem).
After the sync, v3alpha5 should work just fine.
You mgiht want to keep sync'ing in 3Alpha until it can boot from a power-up without needing to "Rebuild the Database". This will ensure it's properly built.

Heh, same thing happens to me.
"After your v3alpha boots, do a SYNC from emplode to write the databases to disk (on boot, they are not written to disk -- read-only filesystem).

I'd do that if I could. For some reason in v3alpha5 every version of emplode (or jEmplode) doesn't seem to work properly, even the updated alpha version.

Have you installed JEmplode Version 48 or higher....If yes, then make a sync first with that and try then again with the Emplode 2.x. This should work work..I did fix a cupple of time in this way.

jEmplode can explicitly produce 346 different errors ... If you were to pick one in particular that would be helpful. I could try to guess, but the odds are definitely against me.

Except it's not enough. If you don't believe me, I'll film it and put a movie online.

Cool finally got it working.
I used jemplode 44 with alpha 3 and synch a few times, tehn i use jemplode to update to alpha 5 and then synch a few more times.

Well it was working, then i tried to add some playlists and delete some playlists and now nothing shows up.
Using version alpha 3, i can sync in emplode 2.10 or jemplode v44.
In version alpha 3 i can delete playlists and rebuild fine in jemplode v44, but in version alpha 5 it freezes when im tryin to synch after making a playlist change and then when i restart the empeg it shows no playlist

When i try to use the newest jemplode.rar i get this error
The error says
Unable to locate the application's 'main' class. The class 'org.jempeg.empeg.emplode.Main' must be public and have a 'public static void main(String[])' method. (LAX)

Yes, that behaviour makes perfect sense. Allow me to repeat for you:
v3-alpha5 cannot CANNOT CANNOT rebuild databases.
So don't try modifying the player's content while running alpha5. No new tunes, no new playlists. v3alpha3 is required for such.

unless you use the fast database rebuild option in the newer jemplodes. but ignore me if i add to your confusion.

The fast rebuilds are not reliable yet -- they worked sometimes for me, and failed other times. I'm back at v2final now.

Yeah .. I wouldn't really depend on this for a couple releases. I hope it will be there soon, but it's definitely not yet.

Hmm, doesn't he need to come home, and then leave again, for a new release to be possible?

How far does he have to go for a Beta as opposed to an Alpha?
