I have volunteered to work up a Photo Montage for an upcoming family event and wanted to get some advice from the group for software suggestions to do this.

I'd like to set the whole thing to music, and I'd also like the ability (not sure how to describe) for the software to be able to zoom or move around a still image to give the impression of motion or panning.

I'll probably have 4-6 minutes of photos and could dig up some more if necessary. I don't want it to be too long, but not real short either since I'll be dragging a laptop and projector to a local hotel...

Some of the photos will be scanned and some will be digital from the camera...

A PowerPoint presentation would be pretty boring, so I'm looking for some software that will really help me jazz the whole thing up and make people say "Wow, that was slick!"...

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Randy

Google's Picasa software will play slideshows to music, I use it to organize my photos and it does a pretty good job of that. Haven't used it specifically for a presentation.

iPhoto also offers such a slideshow as a possibility, but with no exact control over how it zooms around the photo. If you have a DVD burning Mac or know someone who does, you could burn the slideshow to DVD pretty quickly. Open up iDVD, and make a new project, then use the slideshow option to create it, add music and photos and then burn.

I like to use ProShow Gold.

You can see an example of the sort of thing I use it for Here (44Mb!). Everyone who I've shown is really impressed, and my Dad even gets on with the program, powerful and easy to use.

Cheers

Does it do all the rotatey/slidey/fadey things automatically or did you have to set it all manually?

I did them all myself, but I pretty sure there are options to do it automatically, there is an option for just about everything else

The output options are quite impressive !!!

Hi Cris,
I just downloaded your show and thought it was great. In fact, that software seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. I've downloaded the 15 day trial version and will most likely purchase it....

Thanks very much for your recommendation, and I enjoyed the slide show very much.....

Thank You

I still find the show entertaining even after watching it many many times, it's a really good way of looking at photos, it brings back lots of good memories for me. I think it works even better than the iPhoto Books that have just arrived!

Finally, after 3 years of waiting it looks like I have answered my first question on the empeg BBS, I'm so happy!

Cheers

Just out of interest Cris, is 2b1q an ISDN signalling protocol?

Umm, sadly, yes.

I was reading the crap on the back of the BT's ISDN NTE's one day, whilst on hold you understand, and it said "Line Protocol: 2B1Q" this was in that days before ADSL and I thought it would make a cool domain name.

I had great plans for it once, lots of themes based on BBQ or Bar-B-Que (2 B's and 1 Q see ) but I never got around to it, now it just serves as a very handy place to share files with people.

Cheers

Cris.
