So is this legit ? Link

I want to get some version of windows that has MCE but would hate to get XP with Vista right around the corner so something like this would be great. The comments make it sound too good to be true though.

I know that if you buy a PC with XP installed now, it'll come with a Vista upgrade coupon. I don't know if that's specific to certain manufacturers, or to all OEMs.

If it's available to all OEMs, this explains how Newegg are able to get hold of the vouchers. Whether or not you're really supposed to be able to buy an OEM copy of Windows is another point. Ordinarily, you have to buy some hardware (e.g. a mouse or keyboard) to qualify for the OEM license.

I would be happy to buy a non-oem version if I got a free upgrade to visa but they don't sell retail versions of MCE. It's probably better to just wait until vista comes out.

XP MCE will upgrade to Vista Home Premium, then from there the OS can be upgraded for a fee to Ultimate.

This is a handy chart describing the features of each. Ultimate combines all the media editing and MCE features of Home Premium with the business features like domain support and (sadly) remote desktop support.

I'm not worried about the actual upgrade process if I had to do a clean install it wouldn't matter. I want to pay for a copy of MCE now and get a free copy of Vista when it comes out.

One thing to remember with OEM versions of Vista is that you can only install it on the one machine ever. So if you upgrade your motherboard, and CPU down the road you will have to purchase a new license. Retail versions you can move as you upgrade/replace PC's (provided you are still running Vista on only that one PC of course).
