Okay, so his birthday isn't for another month or so, but I just couldn't wait that long.

Hijack v234 is out, and it will break your config:
  • all Hijack menu options need to be set up again.
  • Hijack now steals 16-bytes of flash instead of just 8
  • The left/right delaytime is stored separately for AC and DC power
  • The ButtonLED illumination setting is stored separately for AC and DC power
  • New "fake" button codes for remote-use and IR mappings: VolAdjOff, VolAdjLow, VolAdjMed, VolAdjHigh, and HijackMenu
  • The config.ini names have changed for the voladj parameters. The new names are the same as the new buttons: VolAdjLow, VolAdjMed, VolAdjHigh. You will get config errors if you have the old names in your config.ini
  • The voladj parameters can now also be set remotely, using /proc, FTP, and/or HTTP. Same syntax as config.ini
  • The built-in HTTP playlist browser now uses NODATA for it's Play buttons.

    Some examples:

Turn VolAdj on (medium) remotely: http://empeg/?NODATA&BUTTON=VolAdjMed

    Change VolAdj parameters remotely: http://empeg/?NODATA&VolAdjMed=0x2000,409,0x1000,27,70

That should be enough to get started with.

    Happy (early) Birthday, Tony!

Oh, and I forgot to mention this new feature:
  • ButtonLED brightness dims when headlights are on (non-configurable at present.. I want to play with it tonight to see if it needs tweaking).

Hey, Mark, the buttonLED brightness, when set to MAX, doesn't seem to be as bright as it was before at max level. At least to me on my system at the moment on AC power. Is it possible that it's pulling the dimmed value from the car mode or something?

Yup, it's as I suspected. The button dimming is working the opposite of the dimmer line (at least in my case).

On AC power with no dimmer line connected, it's dimmed the buttons.

In the car with the dimmer line connected and my headlights turned ON, it runs at full brightness.

In the car with the dimmer line connected and my headlights OFF, it runs at the dimmed brightness.

Since the player has no way of knowing whether the headlight line goes low or goes high when I flip my headlight switch (different cars do it differently), it simply remembers the two different states and stores them in the "dimmer" area of flash. One value for high, one value for low. So is Hijack trying to detect which is which? If it were me doing the coding, I'd read those to flash values, and when the headlight-line's state changes, then behave depending on which flash value is greater than the other.

Yeah, the sense line is inverted from what I first guessed. Fixed in v235 (shortly).

Note that the dimmer-sense is used on both AC and DC modes, because at least a few people have indicated they wanted dimming to work on home docking stations..

    Cheers

It's not quite that simple to do inside Hijack. So instead, I may just add another hijack config.ini option for it.

But in the meanwhile, I've reversed the polarity of the sense.

    v235 is now out.

    Still poking around.

Have done a lot of tree climbing in my days. I would be willing to give rock climbing a try, afterall, what's the worse thing that could happen.

Well, if you put it that way, I s'pose I'll show up as well.

We better hit that other thread and email some confirmations.
I'm thinking of packing my soldering iron as well, in case there are any homeless button kits present at the meet..

If you must know it is Jo for my Scottish great-grandmother. Maybe I will buy a button kit if you plan on doing some soldering. Will save me from mailing it to the great white wild north.

Any wolves up there where you live?

No wolves, but a few coyotes. And I do know a real wolf down in New Hampshire. Her name is "Pinga". Not as lovely as Jo, but very descriptive for this particular girl.

Sent my confirmation in for the Boston meet.

There is a place about 50 miles from here called The Red Wolf Sanctuary that I have been to a few times. They are beautiful animals, coyotes are cool too. "Pinga", I like that.

There's a breeder with a colony somewhere in the White Mountains.

Pinga is from that group, and her uncle, Loki, was the pick of the crop. He passed on a couple of years back (age 10), but was one heck of a beautiful creature. Chest high, very massive, intelligent, awesome memory. Pinga is much more light hearted, and a bit smaller (being a lady).

You bringing your street launcher, or still undecided on that?

Not sure if I want to drive it that far, at 10 mpg the gas would cost a fortune. Would be a fun drive though. I'll probably drive my boring Dodge Caravan, it's my work vehicle but I can drive it that far as long as I mention it first. I'll have to empty it out so I don't lug all of the equipment with me. Wouldn't have room for my luggage if I didn't.

Well, the lit buttons worked out very well on the road tonight (3.5 hours Ottawa to Toronto).. a lot less fumbling in the dark. And the headlight dimming tie-in seems OK, too.

Well, the lit buttons worked out very well on the road tonight

Yes, for me, too, as well. The brightness level of the "headlight-dimmed" buttons is perfect, no need to alter it from the defaults.

I had one incident shortly after startup on the way out of the garage, where it seemed to get confused about the line-state and the buttons were dimming incorrectly. I don't remember whether they were toggling between "off" and "dim" or if they were toggling between bright/dim but doing it backwards. But they were toggling wrong, I was sure of it, and had to correct it by rebooting (pull/insert player).

I have not been able to reproduce the toggling bug, and I tried. I don't know the conditions required to reproduce it, but it wasn't a big deal.
