If you upload photos, this thread could be handy for links.

Me: Saturday, Sunday.

I missed out on photos at the party, I really should get a smaller more convenient camera soon.

The runway was shortened after it was flown in, when they ran the new M11 across the end of the runway.

  • The one labelled as me is actually Ian (Springheel)'s Renault.
  • The Silver ? in the bottom right is Andy (Bagpuss)'s car.

Given that you can't see either the wheels or front lights on either car it might be a bit of a challenge. If you could see either of those details it would be easy, without them both cars will appear identical.

P.S. they are labelled correctly in the photo though

Good pictures, everyone. Do you all mind if some of your photos are saved locally for future reference, giving credit of course.

Three weeks in sunny old England.

7300 shutter clicks.

2295 unique photographs after four passes of "weeding".

Approximately 13MB of disk space per photograph on my web server (including RAW original, full size JPG, and downsized JPGs).

About 30GB total disk space required.

Only 24GB available on server.

Help!

Western Digital 500GB external drive with FW and USB 2.0 for only $139?

Cool. Not exactly what I had in mind, but I've ordered one of them now. They won't ship it outside of the USA, but I'm in San Jose all next week, so I've just had it sent to the hotel for pickup when I arrive.

Mmm.. Maybe I should get two of them for a RAID1.. [EDIT]especially as many of them seem to have had power-supply issues in the past[/EDIT].

Hmmm... I didn't notice (or even think to read) the reviews before buying. This morning I was close to buying a 300GB Maxtor OneTouch. Then I saw this on sale for $20 cheaper and I get 200GB more space and Firewire. Seemed like a deal. Hopefully I (and you) luck out.

I'm not particularly concerned about it. I've got spare PSUs here, a spare enclosure, and heck.. I might even just pull out the bare drive and install it directly regardless. This is still cheaper than a bare 500GB drive for me right now.

I've seen 120GB notebook drives off and on at Fry's for $120. Not what you're looking for, but I'm always tempted. They're usually only one-day sales, though, so timing is important.

If you're in San Jose next week is there any plan for a mini-meet?

edit:
As a matter of fact (just now checked) today is one of those rare days for the 120GB drives.

I haven't seen many 160s available as far as deals go. Newegg does have a $95 120GB drive here that has been tempting me for the past couple days.

Those WD enclosures are really nice, I just picked one up locally at a CompUSA that's going under for about $150 after taxes.

I think it's the first enclosure to have fans built in (at least that I've used personally), plus they have variable fan speeds depending on either heat or large file transfers (not 100% positive on which it is), plus it has a nice metal case, with alot of vent holes around the bottom/back/top of the unit for pretty decent cooling.

The power supply is an external brick, so if it does go, it shouldn't be anything tricky to replace (hopefully?)

All of my (years old) USB2 enclosures have fans. But they're all fixed-speed fans.

What voltage/current does the brick supply?

Thanks

Ahh.. as suspected, they've pulled the shipment back from the docks and refunded my purchase price (well, not really, I actually lose out about $10 on the two-way exchange rate conversions, with no loot to show for it).

I'm slowly working through editing the Cambridge photos, and the first lot from the brewery is now ready for viewing. I'd appreciate some help with remembering names for the few untagged photos.

Finally (for now), the Monday lunch photos are now up.

Sometime between now and Christmas, I'll sift through the other 2.5 weeks worth of UK photos, and perhaps post a link to a representative selection.

You guys have posted more than simple photos. It strikes me as photojournalism. Catching so many details, it's possible to really relive the events with a few mouse clicks. Good photos all around; no wonder I leave my camera packed up for the weekend.

Thanks Rory!

I still have three people from the Brewery section yet to be identified. And damnit, I *know* two of them, but my memory is just failing me for names.

this guy, and these two.

Both brewery dudes. Though, I don't recall seeing the guy on the left.

I'm reliably informed that his name is actually Peter. But as I have a brother called John, and John Ripley has a brother called Peter, and this chap from ARM wasn't the brother of either of us, I can see how confusion might arise. That's what you get for having either Default Biblical Name #1 or Default Biblical Name #2, I suppose.

Peter

Oops sorry. Bas, you might want to edit your group photo, as that also says John. I remembered his car and looked at the pic for his name.

You got a V70R, Peter? Manual or auto? How do you like it? I'm pretty pleased with my S60R, with a few notable exceptions.
