I do hope they actually get round to producing this, I think it was mentioned on here a while ago. Although I dread to think how much it would cost....

At $200 I would buy two instantly - so cool!

Yeah, I agree. If they can hit the $200.00 price point, it would be amazing. I see that and think it's gotta be at least 5-700.

Some other interesting questions: - what happens if you spill stuff in it? - can you pop off the keycaps to clean out hair and the other gunk that get into every keyboard? - did they get the key feel right? - how will these things hold up over time? Personally, I'm a big fan of my Kinesis Contoured keyboard. It's just far more comfortable for typing than most anything else I've tried. The only place where it's not really up to snuff are games, Photoshop, and places where the application is assuming you've got one hand on the mouse and the other on the keyboard.

Yeah, especially that. I still love my old IBM keyboard with keys that almost do clang-clang-clang, with most positive tactile feedback.
BTW, Mr. Lebed's site says 'patent pending'. I can remember (vaguely) 'prior art' (keyboards with configurable displays on keys) from a decade or so ago. (Hm, now I seem to remember mentioning it here already... Ah, well.)

We just need some hardware hacker to mat those screens and their controler on an IBM Model M keyboard. I'd buy two of THOSE in a heartbeat. Playing Zelda 4 using AXSZD and C is a little frustrating.

The only games I have a hard time with on my Contour are the ones that you can't remap the keys. MAME is miserable on it, for instance As long as the keys can be remapped, I think it is actually easier to use than a flat keyboard - the keys just seem more accessible if you can get them all on one side of the keyboard.
Another problem is games with a 'hotbar' that use the number or function keys. Typically, it's because those can't be remapped, I guess.

MAME should let you remap everything, surely? I'm sure that's what I have done. Of course versions may vary.

No, you are perfectly sane. I remember it too. I am just too lazy to search for it right now.

Heh: Bonzi, Jan 2006: Quote: BTW, Mr. Lebed's site says 'patent pending'. I can remember (vaguely) 'prior art' (keyboards with configurable displays on keys) from a decade or so ago.
Bonzi, Jul 2005:
Quote: Hm, I remember seeing a keyboard very similar to this as early as 1990 or '91. Of course, I don't remember the manufacturer, nor is there a chance to locate the actual thing. Pitty, it would be amusing to spoil the patent owner's fun with a piece of previous art.
Perhaps I am senile (the previous mentioning was barely half a year ago!), but at least I am consistent
