I figured if anyone knew this, it would be someone here.

I've been searching for an add on cd changer to hook into the aux-in of my Empeg. It would need a wired remote, preferably the sort with a little display, and RCA outputs. It seems that no one makes anything like this. You can either get a cd changer intended to be controlled by a particular head unit (the problem with these being that there is no way to control them without said head unit), or you can get one intended for use as an add on, with an FM modulator and a wired remote (the problem with these being that they have no RCA outputs, only the cruddy-sounding FM modulator).

With more and more head units these days having standard RCA auxiliary inputs, I find it very hard to believe that no one makes something like this - but If someone does, I sure can't find it. Sony long ago made some sort of device that one could use to add a wired remote onto a Sony head unit controlled cd changer, but that device has long since been discontinued.

A friend of mine insists that it should be a relatively simple thing to just buy one of the FM modulator type units, crack it open, and soldier in my own RCA jacks. This may be true, but I'd obviously rather just purchase a unit that already has them if one exists.

The Sony DVX-100 has RCA outputs, but it's also a DVD player and costs $1000.

Do any of the ones that use FM modulators have RCA out and the modulator just connects to that ?

I seem to recall there being some in the Crutchfield catalog a number of years ago:

"Add a CD changer to any stereo, even if it doesn't have a CD changer input."

They had, if I recall, both RCA and FM-modulator outputs.

If it were me, I'd get one of the FM-modulator ones and try to hack the line level traces.

I have a sony 10 disc changer like that, it is a rf type but it has separate rca outputs also. I would sell it if you are interested

I don't think that includes the changer it is listed as cd changer controller.

Well it would still work you would just have to by the changer seperate. I wonder what models it works with.

My wife has a Sony 10 CD changer in her car with RCA outputs. Its probably like the one mrfitit has. She has beat the hell out of it over the years and it works great. It hooks to an FM modulator.

I think "MisterBeefhead" is going to get my cd changer, it would work out perfect for what he wants.
