I like the way that you can use the remote's number pad to select a menu option directly but I would prefer it if it entered that option aswell rather than having to press the OK button between each selection. i.e

Current method to select EQ is

*
9
DNPP
5
DNPP

Would be easier with:

*
9
5

Just Like on a Nokia phone. What think ye??

Sound like it would be possible. If using the numbers to select it could automatically enter that choice. Would take some time to learn to get it right, but I think I would like.

My only problem with this is that sometimes the menu order changes with certain software releases, and I'd be up a creek in that case.

Users can also make certain menu items "visible" themselves (for example, it's possible to add a "quit" menu item to the player if you've got something going on in a shell script). So that's another way that the menu order can change.

I also foresee a future where plug-ins will add their own menu items.

Oh all knowledgable oracle, please impart on us some of your knowledge... just when is this future going to fall apon us?

That aint a half bad idea, I was wondering if there was a setting toggle somewhere where you could navigate through the menu "Nokia style".

I can understand that they may change but this would still be the case with the current procedure. All I want is the software to go that extra step and press OK for me aswell. It would make sense to have all the common items (Sound, Power off etc) to be the first set of items on the menu. Then the addins can be later on (probably above 9 anyway). I think that many people will use the left/right or volume wheel to select anyway.

In any case it would not take long to learn the number for a particular option after each upgrade.

I've had nokia phones, for me that system didn't help much. I just didn't need to go down the menus often enough to learn the numbers.

I also have a nokia phone and this is an excellent way to quickly get to the menu option you use often.
Of course i don't know all the menu item numbers, but the ones i use often are quickly learned and this shortcut works excellent...
