Edit: There is now a Third Party Software List on the Empeg Wiki.
Speaking of Greg Comb's forgotten open source player has finally pushed me to post this:
Is there any maintained list of all 3rd party empeg software? If not, let's create one. For now, if you want, reply to this thread with links to software you've written, know about, or stuff that's been long forgotten like the replacement player.
We all know Hijack, jEmplode, emphatic since they are linked at the top, but every now and then I see posts for cool software that I know I'll forget about (ie: cushman's empeg web lite).
Maybe when I get some time (not immediately, unfortunately), I will troll the BBS and internet and create a webpage (not just a thread which can get lost) linking to all 3rd party empeg software and utilities which are helpful for the empeg (ie: taggers, MP3toFID, etc). Or is this already out there? And if it is, how can we let people know about it?

Here are a couple that come to mind:
TTS - Using flite - Works rather well except for the one volume bug where it blasts the speech at full volume.
TTSClock - using pcmplay
RioPlay Thread
SSH on the Empeg
emPacman
emphatic
SYLT Lyrics Plugin - For adding lyrics to mp3s for display in empathic
Squash thread
Skunk's Boot Logos - More boot logos then you will ever know what to do with.
Charcoalgray's Web Interface
Empeg Web Lite thread
Ill add some more if i can find them. This is a good idea Ive always wanted to start my own little list but never got around to it. *Just adding them as I find them no specific reason for the order.

If you want, I can grant you FAQ editing powers so it could be a section of RioCar.org instead of a seperate page you would have to worry about hosting.

I did notice that the RioCar web page has a few applications listed that you can no longer get to. page doesnt exist. maybe if someone out there has them we can setup a repository somewhere for them so we dont loose em.

I seem to remember something before you could Right Click to download files (and before we had ftp in Hijack) that let you download files from the empeg. It was a hack, but I don't remember if was a command line thing or ftp. Actually, I think it was command line because I remember it crashed after so many tracks
EDIT: And Mark Lord's Fidsift
Tony Fabris made empegface and LogoEdit.
Someone made a program that converted gifs or jpgs into the .raw format for the Escher visuals.

empeg Tetris
empeg pacman
empwake
empeg Tray
empeg VNC
That .raw thing is called: emRAWerterv101
Mark Cushman's Palm application "palantir".
And I see something in my "3rd Party Aps" folder called "EmpegMusicCatalogue.zip" that has a Word document in it... Looks like something that exported your database to a .doc file.

emptool (?) is one that came up, but was that from the empeg guys?
Someone in 2002 made a replacement player. His name was elessar ("Thomee"). Link. I remember people being a little hostile to him at the idea of making a replacement player! "How dare you! What's wrong wtih the empeg software!?" (As I type this, the thread I linked to has everybody complimenting him! I wonder if I was thinking of a different thing or if he had another thread going too.)
rsync
Frank van Gestel's Displayserver. <-- This is the one I was thinking about to download mp3s. 2001!
Richard Lovejoy's Volume Adjust (integrated into Hijack.)

There is a whole section of RioCar.org just for third party empeg software. It merely needs someone with the gumption to fill it out and keep it up to date.
I keep my entries in there up to date (pretty much Face and Logoedit I think), but don't bother to work on the rest of it.

I wouldnt mind helping out some with maintaining the third party software list. Would be nice to be able to give something back to this community. especially since i cant create my own third party software just yet.

I wouldn't mind seeing all the apps on one page instead of split into separate pages by category like they are now (in Downloads). They could be categorized on one page, but keeping them all on one with some logical categories would help. Kind of like a FAQ entyr page.

I agree. Anytime I'm looking for something there, I don't know what area to look in. And if I find it, it is often out of date. Having someone volunteer to keep that up-to-date would be great as long as links to web site of the creater are still there.

Agreed. Whoever settles on being the one to maintain it, that can be their first job, de-categorizing it.

Wow, lots of software!! Thanks for all the links. Quote: If you want, I can grant you FAQ editing powers so it could be a section of RioCar.org instead of a seperate page you would have to worry about hosting.
Hmmmmmmmmm. Considering that the only thing in life that makes me happy is organizing *stuff*, this may be a perfect job. How much is the current page open to reorganization/redesign? Would I need to learn PHP to work it?
I would love to reogranize the RioCar.org download section. Just give me a little time to figure out a good system, and I'll get right on it!

Ummh... As anyone who stayed here around the last Amersfoort meet can testify, you just described my back office - except that in addition to books/magazines, there are also numerous pieces of hardware in there... Probably a Land Rover engine somewhere under all that rubble...
By the way, how is Zagreb these days? Might actually want to check it out again, Elaine and I are looking for a suitable place to take the Morgan down to during a spring break week.

What can I tell you, a little spleepy Mitteleuropean city.... Beer, wine and food are decent, though, and there are lots of little twisty roads nearby (in hilly Zagorje region), suitable for driving the Morgan semi-seriously.
When have you been here? What were impressions?

A very memorable trip - it was just before the civil war, I was a guest speaker at the Yugoslavian Unix User Group meeting, and ended up going Zagreb-Ljubljana in the dark and in very thick fog (and in a hurry), thus not exactly enjoying those nice, twisty mountain roads
Flew out in a 8-seater piston cessna that didn't go over as much as in between the Alps. Have to say I was very happy when I heard the Munich Air Traffic Control on the radio...

Heh, sounds fun! Fog is quite frequent on Zagreb-Ljubljana road (mostly proper highway, finally). I had some memorable night drives there myself. Should you choose air transport, today it would be A320 (or ATR42, worst case ) Let me know if your plans firm up! Cheers!

Since we're already completely off topic, what is the phonetic american english pronunciation of Ljubljana? I always feel like an ass trying to say it how it's spelled. I've never heard it pronounced (by anyone who knows how to say it anyway.)

Errr, I don't know how to represent 'LJ'... I'll try to find a mic somewhere and pronounce it myself
Ah, I found it in my Webster, but don't know how to enter all those characters, so here comes the GIF.

So let me continue to take it even more off topic... My (now deceased, but she got to 99) grandmother brought back a metal sign from Zagreb long ago.. It says (as far as I can remember - it's now with my brother in Finland) 'Osigurala "Kroatia"'. So what would 'Osigurala' mean?
