This one, I think, is for some of the Empeg folks.

Wondering if it would be possible for the hardware to have two players running
at the same time, playing two different songs. One song output to the front RCA jacks, and the other song output to the rear RCA jacks. (Or even better, have different sources on the RCA pairs. eg. radio and empeg)

This would come in handy if someone wanted to listen to one playlist in their headsets, while other could listen thru the carspeakers.

No, it's not possible. The DSP can only be fed stereo data, and it does the front/rear mix internally.

But it *is* technically possible for the hardware to play different songs on
left and right?

I wouldn't hold your breath for that "feature"!

The empeg may not be able to do it alone but the empeg is still very versatile. Would this work? It is probably possible to run a decoded multichannel stream out the ethernet connection to small external hardware that would seperate and preamplify the stream since the empeg lacks the hardware for true multichannel sound. Would work for multichannel or multisource output.

Could be a AC3/DTS module for those that like the idea.

If you'd implement that feature I know at least 6 DJs who would buy a "big one" immediatly.

I talked to them about using an empeg instead of their notebooks and most of them liked the idea, but don't want to buy two empegs and keep them in sync.

btw:
If I buy ten, do I get one cheaper ? ;-)

While we are talking about strange and unusual things to to do with an Empeg.

Could someone with far more knowledge than myself get one to run with a modem and then log onto the net and then download music straight from napster as an example.

A feature with no real advantage but it would be cool not that i would even bother as my computer works fine.

I only ask as it came up in conversation with some friends and i thought it might be techniclly possible just

Yes, that would be technically possible. But it would be a fairly large task for doing it just on the empeg alone. It's much easier just to do the work with the PC and use Emplode to load the songs onto the Empeg.

I assume that you mean doing this by plugging an external v.90 modem directly into the Empeg's serial port, right? Because if you mean connecting to the internet via the ethernet port, then you're already talking about it being hooked up to a network with PCs on it already and there's no advantage to having the Empeg doing the downloading since it's so much easier to do on the PC.

If you mean controlling a modem through the serial port, then yeah, I'm sure you could write some sort of napster-type client to run on the Empeg and control a modem through the serial port. But it would be a lot of work for very little benefit.

I actually had my nokia 7110 dialing out communication with the empeg over infrared; Maybe sometime in the future we will be able to give a voice command like : 'search fire' and it would dial out to search all MP3's that contain the word fire , display a list and it would download the selected items.
Which bring me to another question : When VR is in place, is there also an option for the empeg to talk back? Maybe I want to set up some quasi-arti-intelli system to show off to friends...

Additionally, i don't see why you would want to. Napster people are notorious for not filling out the MP3 tags appropriately, I would guess that 80% at least would not know what they are.

Additionally, that would be your ONLY copy of the song. what happens if you want to upgrade the drives? the unit is stolen? the drives crash?

We have it in the back of our minds to coincide voice recognition with audible confirmation. Now I just have to track down Majel Barrett's agent..

Me, personally, I'd rather have Ben Stein. "Bueller... Bueller... Bueller..."

Or if the guy who did HAL-9000 is still around, that'd be the ultimate. "I'm sorry, Dave, but that song sucks eggs."

1 I realise this has no practical benifits what so ever

2 I thought it would be a huge task

3 Napster is full of shite

4 I would be cool if you could do it anyway it would be up there with Talky Toaster cool but no use what so ever technology for the sake of it.
