Hi All,
I received 10 brand new empeg displays. 9 of them will be sold to y'all.
I'm going to charge $80.00 each for these as I had to pay for shipping from Japan to Chicago then Chicago to me. The $80 will also include shipping to you, in the US or Canada. This also covers my PayPal fees and packaging fees and stuff too.
These are brand new units, and I'm going to be shipping them in styrofoam. They'll be very well packed. Just so you know, if we have any issues with defective units, we'll need to go back to Noritake to deal with it. I don't want to become a middle-man for this in the future.
So far, I have the following people on the list to get new ones:
pgrzelak
mlord
tman
jaroblo (don't have your email address)
Anyone else?
- Jon

/me resists the urge to buy one "to have just in case".
I'm sure there are those who need one "right now". I could swear there were at least three broken nipple cases reported on this BBS in the last couple months who aren't on your list of names.
A BBS search on "nipple" would probably work...

There was also a lot of discussion about "Rob's Knob" at one point, too... Don't remember if that was the slippery or the non-slippery version...

Greetings!
I originally put a request in to Jon for three, but I hope to pick up a few additional. It is likely that I will have some spares for a while, and I am usually around. If anyone is thinking about a spare "just in case", I will probably have a few for that very purpose.

I'm so tempted, but can't spare the cash for yet another 'just so I have one' gadget right now Never mind the cash, I don't even think I can spare the credit at the minute!!

Greetings!
True, but since these are so hard to get, spares can come in handy.
Meanwhile, I called Noritake, and they are checking inventory. I hope to hear from them tomorrow. If they are available, I will be getting a second round of spares. I know of at least four people who asked about them, and I will probably pick up a few extras, just in case...

Um, good question... Deceleration trauma?
Edit: Still no word. I will call them after I get off my latest conference call.
Edit2: Called. They have 10 more in Japan that they are shipping out to me. I have already received about 7 inquiries, but (to make my life easier), please send me an email directly if you haven't already, so I can trace it. After I get them in (probably not until the end of April by the look of it) I will email out replies with a final pricing. This is for the MN12832E as mentioned elsewhere on the board.

As from an earlier email to Paul - my flip-flop went under the step, foot went over the step and hence my body and the empeg went straight into the rest of the steps.
I'm not sure exactly why it broke - my best guess would be that the display was moved by the shock and hit the bottom of the case and cracked. It's some thick glass to break - but in the end, it's still broken.
Deceleration trauma indeed.

Greetings!
There is hope, though. I just ordered 10 more. I have your email, so as soon as they come in, I will let you know.
Meanwhile, anyone else on the thread (or in general) that needs a replacement VFDs, send me email. These 10 probably will not arrive until the end of the month.

Greetings!
At this stage, the ones that I have ordered are now accounted for. If there are any changes or drops, I will post that more are available. Thanks!
EDIT: Okay. I am sick, evil, twisted greedy person. The other sales rep from Noritake emailed me that there were a total of 20 units available in Japan. I had already ordered 10. I figured, why not? I will not accept any more requests until everything arrives safely, but I may be getting another batch in.

Greetings!
I just received a box from Jon also, but have not had a chance to open it yet. Very cool!!!
Meanwhile, I have 10 more on order that are already spoken for, plus another 10 that Noritake thinks they have, and they are checking for me. They have been told to order those other 10 if they find them.
Paul.

Greetings!
Actually, Noritake messed up the shipment of the last batch, sent to a non-existant mail address (so much for spelling it out to them three times...) and it got returned by UPS to their Chicago office. I have a promise from two different reps that it will be reshipped today to the right address.
As to having spares available, I still have a few reservations that I need to fill, including mine. I have ONE spare left. Send me an email with your address as soon as possible, and I will hold it for you.
No other orders will be accepted until this batch is completed - I think we have reached a point where there is no longer a significant demand, I have accounted for all of those that I have had ordered / shipped from Japan, and I do not know if Noritake has any left for me to buy... After the last batch arrives, I will post the contact information for the team I have been dealing with for the east coast (US) region. They are very helpful, interested, and did not charge me for the shipment from Japan!
One interesting side note: the guy at Noritake was extremely interested in the player. He is a music buff and was curious to know what I was using them for. I described the player to him, and he wanted more information. I sent him links to all of the common sites (this board, empeg.com, riocar.org, my install, etc.). While I don't think he is "hooked" enough to buy one, he did raise an interesting topic...
It seems that Noritake gets lots of requests for consultative help from small startups (perhaps as empeg was in the very early days), where groups may be interested in small runs of 100 units and need help getting the displays working / programmed. Noritake, of course, cannot help them. He was wondering if I had a contact that would be interested in consulting for using the displays in real-world applications. I did not give any direct contact information (I know that the folks @ empeg have real jobs), but I told him to send them to this board. So, you might someday see requests for consulting on the displays - I don't know if this is something anyone here would want to deal with (David?, Mark?, Stu?), but I will leave it to you to decide.
