I was trying to install emphatic, edited everything, ran the FTP script, it failed because it said the directory I specified wasn't there, then it did this for five minutes: (had hyperterm hooked up)

Aiee, killing interrupt handler
Kernel panic: Attempted to kill the idle task!
In interrupt handler - not syncing

I grabbed the tail end of it. The empeg screen said remounted in read only mode, and did nothing else. I cycled power, and all appears well. But is it really?

Sounds similar to a bug in an old version of Hijack. What Hijack version is running on there now?

If you're running HJ < v300, and you have 2 drives in your empeg, and you have both /dev/hda4 and /dev/hdc4 set up to mount on /programs0 and /programs1 then you will encounter a buffer overrun when remounting ro from kftpd or khttpd. You can work around it by using the serial (or telnet) prompt to run the binary 'ro' (and 'rop') and not using kftpd or khttpd to 'ro'. Simpler and better is to upgrade HJ to the latest and greatest.
