There is a small circular "burn" mark on the bottom right side of my screen. It is off the LED pad, and noticable when face is removed. I've heard of this before somewhere, and I'm not sure if it's normal.

(ATEMPTED) EXAMPLE:
_____________________________
I I
I LED SCREEN I , ---- ,
I_____________________________ I I O I <-- KNOB
{O} ' ---- '
THE BURN ---^

(It look's like a solder point, exept I would like to know if this is harmful, and or should be fixed...)

Thank's
- Dirty Dozen

Although not a specific FAQ entry on your exact question, your question is answered as part of another FAQ entry right here.

In fact, a search on the FAQ for the term "burn mark" produces that very entry. Hm.

That spot is the "getter" inside the vfd. When vfd's are made and the vacuum is drawn there is a little metal ring right under that spot called a "getter" that is energized and all the impurities are sucked to the spot so the rest of the display has a perfect vacuum. If you look at some old radio tubes they have the same thing and it looks the same.
