No, I didn't leave it in the car.

I had my purse snatched (in [censored] Scardale of all places) with my empeg and one remote in it. So if there are any of you who do watch the auction sites, please keep an eye out for a 60GB with a face plate that lights up blue under a neon red lens. The remote has a rhinestone daisy glued over the menu button.

Or if anyone notices someone selling an empeg and a black chanel backpack (SN 4332004 on the bag) simultaneously, please let me know.

Most purses are thrown out close to the scene after the wallet is taken. They usually just want the money and credit cards. Maybe it will turn up, they might not have even noticed anything else in there.

I bought more than one empeg when sonicblue had the blow out sale. I was more concerened with support, (Sorry Rob and David, at the time I didn't realize that I didn't need to be concerned) now I am worried about theft. I am sick and tired of hearing these stories.
Good luck with your recovery efforts!!

MAN. Purse AND empeg at once. If your wallet was in there, i can't imagine a worse feeling... if i'd have lost my wallet and empeg in one day, it would have been a million times worse... the empeg is replaceable, and hopefully so was everything in your bag. Hopefully this guy didn't know what the hell he got and will be dumb enough to pawn it or auction it. Check the pawn shops in the area and like Laura mentioned, check the dumpsters and garbage... that's exactly what happened when my mothers purse got snatched, they grabbed the wallet and tossed the purse in the trash.

Ugh. I feel your pain. Good luck recovering it.

MAN. Purse AND empeg at once. If your wallet was in there, i can't imagine a worse feeling...

Wallet, car keys, cell phone, everything I had on me except my cigarettes.

Two suburban gangstas driving a yellow IS 300. They weren't after cash. This was entertainment.

However, the good news is they mugged the wrong person (I know pretty much every cop in Scarsdale) and did so right in front of a security camera that had just been installed, that no one remembered existed until about 4 or 5 hours later. The owner of the car was arrested in the middle of the night last night (in a very noisy fashion that woke the entire neighborhood I'm told).

Mom and Dad are very proud of little junior. He's on probation. Since there were two of them involved, and there were injuries involved, to both my friend Mike and I (very minor), it's a C felony. He'll most likely get to enjoy that fine involuntary butt lovin' our prisons are famous for. He finally turned over on his friend this afternoon, and I just got back from identifying the second one.

Hopefully the stuff will turn up (it wasn't in any dumpster within 2 miles, they were all searched yesterday afternoon) since they're searching the second kids house now. The purse and all of it's contents are worth over $4000, so search warrants weren't a problem. I'm actually feel better in my situation than yours, since I'm sure no mugging is ever this thoroughly gone over unless it's a cops friend or relative, even in a place like that where cops generally do nothing but hand out speeding tickets and bust kids for drinking.

I just really want my stuff back. Almost all of it was discontinued (phone, bag, wallet, empeg). And I hate the DMV.

The worst part about it was I was having a really great day up until that point.

Dont ya love when people get caught? When I was young and had a booming system a few guys I know tried to steal it. Like your thieves they were young and stupid. Instead of breaking the window and poping the trunk that way they tried to pry open 2 door and the trunk with a hammer causing 3 grand in damage. Well here is the good part my next door neighbors dog (inside dog) was awoken by the pranksters who woke up its owners who called the police the police were there in 2 min and blocked the guys into my coldesaq(sp?). They were all arrested and spent a night in jail and had to pay back my insurnace company. As much as a pain as it was it was almost cool to see this punks get busted.

YES! That is awesome. I wish i'd have known some cops in Berkeley, i'm sure the jokers who did my car over weren't that bright and could have easily been caught, especially since i had at least 2 witnesses who could ID him and his car.

That's great... i'm glad you at least caught the bastards, and i hope you get your beloved empeg back!!

That's fantastic, Heather. So glad to know that they caught the perps. That's one piece of "closure" that many victims never get. I'm very happy for you.

Good luck on recovering your stuff.

In a different thread I recently mentioned my house being broken in to. I know what you must be feeling now, after your punks were caught. Its the same feeling I want to have but dont think I will. I think my punk/punks got away clean.

My guy had my empeg in his hands. I know because I had it hooked to my PC when I left. When I came home it was on the floor with most everything else I own. He simply did not know what it was and dropped it. I am lucky in that regard..

He took some of the obvious stuff but left other things I would have taken in a heartbeat. And some things he took I scratch my head and wonder why the hell he took that?! That part confuses me. Either he was stupid, rushed, or.. well .. stupid I guess.

In any event, I am glad your punks were caught. Kick them in the nuts for me!

The empeg has been recovered. I can't have it back yet, but it's safe and sound and powers up fine. As a matter of fact, most of it was recovered. Except the girly things like the purse, wallet(credit cards were found, drivers licence is gone), mirror, phone (it's pink with hello kitty and hearts on the face, no man wants that). Which means one of their girlfriends has it, or one of them is secretly a drag queen.

I'm sure none of this would have been done if I didn't give the cops all that free food for a few years.

By the way, what was the original price of the 60Gb model?

Excellent, excellent, excellent.

Now to call my cable provider to see if I can get the Involuntary Butt Lovin' Channel.

(I'm not really that cruel but your vengeful description of this cracked me up. Enjoy!)

Having a life is a good thing.

It was originally $1999 for a Mark 2_ with 40GB of storage. The 60's weren't offered until later, but were at the same price point.

The problem to watch for now is identity theft. I know people who have been nailed with this, and it is not fun. There was enough information between the driver's license and credit cards to make life miserable in the wrong hands. You *might* want to put a warning out to the credit reporting agencies, letting them know your wallet / data was stolen. They can put a hold on your information, so that any new requests would be immediately flagged for posssible fraud.

Granted, it doesn't sound like the thieves were smart enough to do this themselves, but it is very easy to sell the numbers to people who can, especially if your driver's license was not recovered.

If she's lucky, that's all it will be...

If not, then in a month or so the police will be at her door with arrest warrants for all the unpaid traffic violations the thief ran up in her name.

Even though the credit cards were recovered, you need to have then all cancelled and re-issued. The thieves have enough information about you now to go on an internet spending spree with just those numbers.

See if you can do the same with the drivers license.

Even after the whining about breaking nails during install?

Anyway, you're not the first, and won't be the last. The personality and the appearance don't exactly match. Most of the VW's I sold were over the phone or via email, so I'd see a lot of men with thoroughly confused looks on their face when they walked into my office. One guy George thought it was a joke. He went and asked like 4 people if that really was the girl on the phone, as it took about 4 months to find him a car we spoke often. He wasn't expecting a girly girl either.

The new boss is confused also. Since I was hired as eye candy (less than 3 minute interview before the job offer, no resume, no references, told the guy with the first desk by the door to move so I could sit there, and a whole lot of other unusual circumstances), he was surprised by the fact that I insisted on a stick shift for a demo (got a CTS, butt ugly, but so sweet to drive). Was even more dumbfounded to find out I was actually competent at my job too.

God I hope the bitch is stupid enough to get pulled over in that area and use my license. It would most likely be recognised (unusual last names can be a good thing). I want my [censored] backpack and wallet back.

The credit cards were all cancelled within a half hour of it happening. I spend too much time looking at other peoples credit reports to not have some paranoia about that. I also watched what happens when someone buys a new car with no money down using a medical insurance card and a drivers licence (all you need, your SSN is usually on your insurance ID card). Experian, Trans Union, and Equifax were all notified that day to look for any inquiries. The only people I didn't call immediately was voicestream. Someone was dumb enough to use the phone, which is what I was hoping for. I'm not being held responsible for those calls either.

I'm a car salesman. It's a revolving door industry. Jobs are easy to come by since we really don't cost much since we work on comission. I actually quit two jobs in the past 2 months (I quit selling Mercedes after about a week and a half, co-workers all had large sticks up their asses). I was hired at this place within 3 hours of quitting.

Even after the whining about breaking nails during install?

I broke more nails during the Cincy meet (2) than during moving a few hundred pounds of equipment from Barnegat, NJ to Pittsburgh in the back of my minivan (0).

I decline to comment on whether I am a girly-girl.

(The hundreds of pounds of equipment was a large mechanical state machine. Railroads have cool toys.)

The only people I didn't call immediately was voicestream. Someone was dumb enough to use the phone, which is what I was hoping for.

I had my credit card compromised when somebody hacked into the email of a business I had purchased from. The main thing this criminal genius did with it was make long distance calls from his home phone. Idiot!
