You won't believe this. Or maybe you will. One of the HDD screws just fell on the MB, shortcutting something. I just had to remove it to have the empeg booting regularly again

You were astonishingly lucky. By all rights, that screw should have rattaled around and shorted and destroyed components that were expensive or impossible to replace.
