Just by way of an explanation...
Like others have also said here; you typically choose some arbitrary handle because you know that this BBS, just like all of the others you sign up to, is going to be yet another grab-what-you-want-and-run kind of affair. You know that the l33t wtfpwned k1dz on the board and all of their immature bickering means that you have little reason to hang around either. Not to mention the fact that this is the 100th place you've signed up to this week for some reason or another and you want to standardize on an anonymous handle to make logins easier to remember.

So, back to origin of "Rue": Well my RL partner calls me Rue - short for Andrew and that's where it originated.

Would my French friends, if I had any, call me "Street"?
